house kept hounds?
I just got a 9 month old walker. He is lightly started and will fight a coon and has been in on a bobcat hunt and fought it good. At home he is a big baby tho. My fiance and daughters fell in love with him. they brought him in the house and gave him a bath. He is still mostly kennel kept. I am wondering what you think. if they baby him too much will he get soft and not turn out to be a good hunter? or does all this affection not affect the hunt in him at all? thanx for youre input

in my opinion a dog can sense if you love him, like him, or just plain hate him. Depending on how much you care for him thats how hard he will try to please you. Good Luck with your pup

Thank you. I grew up with bird dogs and felt the same about them. they were always very loved and all hunted real hard. It seemed for me as a young kid that the closer bond i had with the dog my dad had at the time the better hunting companion he or she was for me
the last 2 dogs ive hunted have been house kept...
they both ride in the front seat on the way to a nite hunt...
both understand the english language better than some people do!
Curt Ahring laughed when he seen the painted toe nails on the female i took to breed...i seen that when i loaded her in the car for the trip and just laughed and shook my head! buddies GF paints her nails all the time LOL....
both are coon dogs!
nothin wrong with keeping them in the house...and IMO can make for a nicer dog...handles better...listens better...better bond...
hard part is coming home from hunting with a dirty dog....thats the biggest challenge...my buddies GF baths her every nite when i bring her home after hunting..and she has her "own room" for when i hunt her heavy and she isnt completely filthy and wet..she can stay in there without being bathed nightly...
