It all depends on where you hunt. If you hunt around the Ohio River, it's not too bad after you get one hill over from the River Valley. then if you stay below the MasonDixon line you'll find some farm land and timber. If you down State or into TheEastern Panhandle, it's pretty much uphill both ways. I used to be Sec. of The WVCHA, and we put on alot of State Hunts, alot of people from out of state said, If they had to hunt here, they'd Quit!!!!!!!!!! But, It's not that bad if you can find a local to guide you!!

I'm in harrison county (north central) and I have a good coon population around here. They definately aren't "thin" but aren't thick. The hills here are not real bad here. A lot of my country I hunt has been stripped, which means a lot of roads to the next holler or hill

I live in the eastern panhandle of Berkeley Co.. It is nothing like it used to be. We are a Washington D. C. suburb now, housing developments abound.I live on the west side of I 81 in back creek valley its not as bad there.Sleepy Creek State Forest is in Morgan and Berkeley Cos. 23,000 acres its not overflowing with coons but if you get away from the roads you can tree a few

Along the Ohio River is good hunting We can usually tree 2-3 a night (sometimes more) and the hills arent as steep and the winters arent too bad, especially this one

Mountwood Park

Mountwood Horse Camp ? Yes, We hunt it and pretty tough terrain. We know the country well enough I can drive pretty close to the hounds (most of the time)..lol
We choose our drops wisely.. But you know how that works out...
Hunt it on weekends when time is not an issue, really helps get the young ones to hunt harder and longer vs. "short, behind the house" drops.

I live in Lincoln County and the mountains are STEEP! And if your gonna hunt around where I live you better have a coondog! If you get after one it will run for awhile. I was on the Ohio River one night and treed 26.

I'm in the eastern panhandle, Mineral county. Also do a lot of huntin in grant county. Some of the terrain here is steep but there's usually a road you can at least walk on to get closer to the dogs. Coon population isn't bad, helps that there's not too many hunters in the area anymore. Most everybody has changed over to runnin bear.
