Dogs shot in Eastern Kentucky by State Trooper
Some of you may have already read this on the Treeing Walker classifieds. I know all of us coonhunters like to tease each other concerning our preference or color of the dogs we hunt. But all that aside, I know you guys care about this situation. Please read this post, and thanks in advance.
Let me start by thanking you for taking the time to read this post. A very good friend of mine, who is a pleasure hunter, had some bad, bad luck this weekend. He was hunting his 2 Walker hounds, here where we live in Eastern Kentucky, one of which was a super nice dog, a true, blue coondog, and lost them. I won't drag this out, so here's the end of the story. When he finally tracked his dogs, later the next day, he tracked them just up a holler past a Kentucky State Troopers' home. The trooper came out, and was very short with him, wanting to know what he was doing there. When he told him he tracked his dogs to there, the cop told him his dogs were dead, and asked him if he wanted his tracking collars, and shocking collar. The cop tossed him the collars in a plastic bag. When questioned further, he asked my friend why he didn't come to his dogs the night before, when they were treed. He said they were keeping him awake, so he walked up the mountain to the dogs on a tree, and admitted that he shot both of them. Come to find out, apparently the cop didn't even own the property where the dogs were treed. We are not letting this slide, and we need the help of our fellow coonhunters to push this issue as far as we can take it. The male dog that was so good, was also a family pet. All the coonhunters in this area are furious, and we need all the help we can get to do something. We are trying to take all the right courses of action. Again, if it takes money to get some justice, we plan to do all we can to help him make it happen, and ask for your help. I will keep everyone posted. If you're interested in this situation, or helping us out, please follow it on the Treeing Walker classifieds page. I will be posting this on all the different breed classified pages, but it will just be too hard to respond on each one. Please help us by keeping this post at the top your list. Thank you and God Bless.
P. S. If any of you are hunting your dogs in or near Letcher County, Kentucky, please be very careful.
