babblers and silent dogs

I don't understand why so many people get on here and whine and whine about babblers and silent dogs. I HAVE NEVER been beat in a cast by a silent dog and I have only once been beat by a bad and I mean BAD BABBLER. ( hint it was handled by somebody really famous). Almost every single bad babbler was an idiot and me too-ed everyone else and also slicked several times. Most of the time I just sit back and let them self distruct. Once they minus out it is pretty easy to win. I really don't see where being silent on track would be very adventagous at all. Maybe it is because the dogs I hunt are at least mildly independent and none of them have any trouble treeing a coon alone. I do have to say that I really prefer to hunt in the nite chs. Vs. Open because most (not all) of the time we cut the dogs maybe one or two will bark before we cut and then maybe one will bark once or twice racing of the lead other than that it is usually pretty quit until they get in a couple hundred yards and then somebody dog strikes. I know that technically speaking that is babbling a bark or two off the chain but the strike is still honest. I see a lot more bad babblers in open reg. But they kinda tend to stay there because they're idiots. So I guess in summation after comp hunting pretty hard the past five years and travelling to quite a few different states I just don't see either of these things as being the huge problem they are made out to be on this message board. I would love to hear some feed back from everyone. What's the big deal?

I've never worried about being beat by a silent dog. I guess usually I was preoccupied admiring they're coon treeing ability while listening to some babbling idiots still running.

Kind of ironic that the best way to beat that real babbler that beat you would be with a good silent dog.

babbler

i never did the hunts and never liked a dog that babbled on the lead or when turn loose they close enought i put the boot to them as far as a silent dog ive had a couple real good 1s back when coon hides were up you could buy quite abit of dog food with hide money but i always liked a dog that open good enough that you could hear some of the chase

Iagree with brogy. and you can get beat by a babbler if they play the game right, or are you saying your dog just dominates every cast and you dont have to worry ???

The funny part about that real bad babbler was after the first drop we got in the trucks and moved. I got to jump in the TEAM "........" TRUCK and ride with mr. famous. I sat right there in the front seat and looked him dead in the eye and told him that his dog was a babbler. You should have seen the look on his face it was priceless...lol. He was really flustered and stammerrd well..... her mom won over thirty thousand dollars in PKC doing the same thing. I told him well that may be but I wouldn't feed that POS. I dont think a silent dog would have been the best way to beat him. My dog did just fine and came real close. If the cast would have minused about two or three of the slirkle trees that dog made that my dog wouldnt have nothing to do with I would have won the cast easy. Kinda like peeing in the wind trying to get a cast to minus a slirkle when all their dogs are there and mine is off by herself treed. lol. thats the breaks, the best dog doesnt always win. Just have grin and try again next weekend.

Babblers and automatic strike dogs are basically the same thing but babblers are fairly easy to deal with and the other isn't. One hour PKC hunts ( the culprit being 100 points for both strike AND tree) make auto strike dogs worth their weight in gold.
Can't recall being beaten by a babbler but we were beat more than once last year by auto strike dogs.

I think a good silent dog will beat a open dog 8 out 10 and have the meat..But i sooner hunt a good open dog.

my dogs do not babble but i hear a lot of whinning from people whinning about my automatic strike dog. this auto strike dog thing is b.s. every time i hunt my dogs whether it be alone or in a hu t they shoot in a couple hundred yards strike a trail open on track regularly and according to track then locate and tree. I am sorry that I hunt dogs with good noses who open their mouths when they first strike a trail. I love and try to only hunt honest first strike dogs. Hell sometimes I let them open on track a couple times before i strike them if the minute is up just to cut back on the whinning. but the bottom line is my dogs strike honest.

I think some of these dogs could be cut in the middle of the sahara and would get struck just the same, and the owners would still swear that their dog sure does have a nose on em.

Same here. I refer to auto strike dogs as loose mouthed dogs and THEY DO EXIST. And they are becoming more and more popular. Shoot why wouldn't someone want that 100? Which is why in the next few years you will see strike points change. Or at least they should. Silent dogs are a fauls as well according to the rules. Hounds were bread to be open trailers. I will never complain about getting beat by a silent dog. I will whine and cry everytime I get beat by a loose mouther idiot.

It's funny how people don't seem to know what a silent or bablabler is. Yet all the time on here some body is telling about last nights hunt and the story goes like; made a drop and did not strike then loaded up and dropped again and finally got struck and had a good 1/4 mile race and treed..Sounds like those old boys have pretty honest dogs. Funny thing though, we all know those guys are just hunting "me too" dogs that can't tree a coon by themselves. LOL

I guess I dont see how you didnt win the cast if they get circle and your dog gets by itself and trees a coon? If they treed circle 2 or 3 times thats 2 or 3 or at the very least 1 time your dog was split and had a coon. Confused
