if you have coon hunted much, they are about like any other breed...good ones and bad ones, best advice is if you are wantin to try a bluetick, go and hunt with a few breeders, and take your pick from your own experience, not cyber hunters advice...

I have hunted with some good walkers and some bad ones just like the bluetick breed but it is my personal experience that bluetick is by far a better track dog and most are pretty accurate at not slick treeing that"s why i hunt them and would"nt hunt anything else, i use to be a Black and Tan man but for the last 6 years i"ve hunt blues, i still love a good B &T though !

Ok to start off with one thing that the others for got to say .... GOOD WIFE-------- Now with that said. The rest of what they said was right on. Good and bad in all breeds.
I would say if you can buy it under the third tree if you want to start with a already trained dog. First by it self, second with another good dog, third with a trashy dog.
If you get a pup it is like all others. Pick a blood line that has the traits that compliment your training techniques.

I think that the bluetick has one of the best voices out of the hound breeds. JMO. I don't have one but I've always loved a good bawl mouth.

Im hunting an 11 mnth old blue male pup that I like real well.
A man in Mississippi owns him.
If we dont screw him up I believe he will go far.
I have no idea on his breeding, a male and a female I assume.

I have hunted all breeds and there are good and bad in all of them.I can change up but I always go back to a Bluetick.I have had good luck with old line Smokey River Dogs.Great mouth, cold nose fast on track, and accurate on tree plus I love the color.I don't think you can go wrong with a good blue dog.

I don't know much about blue dogs, but I have hunted with several. Most don't seem to satisfy what I look for in a hound, but the ones that have all the guys say something about a Vaughn dog and Smokey something or other. Like I said I don't know NOTHING about breeding in a blue dog, but that's just the names I keep hearing when I see a blue dog I like and ask about breeding.

Blueticks

I hunt English dogs simply because I've had pretty good luck with 'em.To be quite honest,in my opinion, you HAVE to love 'em all for the simple fact that they have a great ability in using their noses.I've hunted and been beat by almost every breed out there. And every time it's happened,I make sure I am able to swallow my pride and congratulate the handler and give that dog a pat on the head.To me,that's what it is all about.

Danny let it roll off just like water on a ducks back, he"s got to be walker guy and loves to walk to 8 to 10 slick trees in 30 minutes or so ! LOL Myself, getting treed real fast is great as long as they have the coon coon but i will take slower any day of the week as long as the coon is there !

A blue dog doesn't have to be slow. The best by far hound I have ever unsnapped is a blue dog. Still have him at the house. Have found absolutly nothing to equal him to date and he will be 13 in May. I am hunting a walker right now that I really like and who knows, next time it might be a blue again. If you want a blue dog then get one. Don't let someone who is color blind detour you in any way! Personally, I like Jet bred dogs and the ones from a little place called Texas Ridge. Have had most makes of blues but those are the ones I like best. Good luck and have fun.

I say good luck finding a good one!! LOL!! No seriously if I could find a good one thats probably what Id be hunting. Problem is I cant find one to suit me. I think they have the best nose of any dogs out there. And most I have hunted with have a mouth that will bring the trees down!!

There's some great advice

Like the majority of people said. Just get a hold of some guys in your area that breed and hunt blue dogs and go see what fits your hunting style. I have 3 blue dogs. One I really like, 1 I'm working on, and the other is too young to hunt. I'm not colorblind by any means! When I started hunting blues are what I "fell into" and I have stuck with them.

I've owned and hunted every breed out there been hunting since i could keep up with dad and uncles and their friends. We owned spring creek rock breeding for years and some wicks banjo. But as a young kid i had a walker guy that owes a world champion walker tell me that you want comp dog thats going to tree alot regardless if the coons there get walker if you want one thats going ti put alot hides on garage wall and look good in early spring and late fall get a bluetick. The blues are getting there with walkers as for as speed but still lacking in some areas. I own blues now and their Rattler or Bullet bred they just seem to have the speed i'm looking for in comp hunts.
