I have an 03 silverado. My reverse lights and my dome light stopped working possibly at the same time but im not sure. I definately know they both stopped working close to the same time. I have checked all fuses with a test light, all look good. I have also checked the switch on the tranny and it had power going to it. Anyone have any ideas? It doesnt have to be fixed,but trying to back up using the mirrors with windows up and double layered 5 % tint is a little rough lol.

Chock wheels, switch ign. on (dont start engine), put lever in reverse position, check to see if fire is going through switch.

Did you check to see if you had power AND ground at the bulb sockets themselves? and dome light bulb?

Sounds like a fuse to me. Did you check all fuse box locations? check the room fuse?

if youve got power coming out of switch at transmission then you know switch is good . just something to keep in mind that normally any switch , sensor , dont require full 12 volt supply most are 5 volt power supply ( but i dunno on chevy - just something to keep in mind ) if all your fuses checked good , its probaly a broken wire in wiring harness . ive got a 03 chevy and awhile back lost all my right tailights , and my turn signal relay would click rapidly and lost 4x4 hi range . i had a bulb that had came lose in the tailight housing and was grounding out caused my bulbs to blow , replaced bulbs and got everything took care of but had no brake light on right side still , called chevy they said it probally caused a short in a wire ( i wasnt getting power to the brake light ) i traced it out and never found it but i ran a jumper wire from left side to right to get my brake light working . mine is a s10 and used a common relay behind glove compartment for flasher and electronic 4x4 when i completed circuit and fixed all lights i fixed my 4x4 problem . but anyways i'd say its a broke wire ? coonhunters we tend to drive through creeks , and get alot of mud underneath a truck ... hope that will help , iam a mechanic in the coal mines up here in wv , dont work on checys much but sounds like a wiring problem .

my 03 silverado had driver side brake light problems,check the bulb sockets real good and even scratch them up some with a scribe,or small srewdriver,good luck

I was getting power to the switch on the tranny when switching into reverse. I traced the wiring harness the best i could(mud) and found nothing,but im sure i could have missed something. Im thinking about running the reverse lights off of a toggle switch. Has anyone ever tried that? Ps i got the dome light working finally thanks for the help so far guys.C. Smith what would the room fuse be labeled as?

May sound dumb but did you check the fuses under the hood as well as the ones in the dash. Dont remember for sure what year they added both but I think yours should have both boxes.

yes chevys have two fuse boxes. the one under the hood has fuses for the tail lights. you can check under the bed by the rear bumper there is a junction box there. it has all of your tail light wires. also if it has a trailer plug on it. they are very bad about draging the ground. check there for a broken wire.

FYI - The newer Chevys are always "Hot" , They drop the ground wire to kill the lights.
Example = 4 headlights , turn on your high beams and low beams go out ..correct ? but the hot wire is still hot. Run a ground to the low beams and you have true 4 light high beams, (my current set up, super brights)

Not sure if this is helpful but don't overlook the ground. in the past on older chevys if the hot wire was hot it should be on. But not the newer models.

How exactly did you ground the headlights? I like that idea it should light the sky up with my foglights on.

Your just going to have to get your test light (or meter) out and see if your getting power/gnd to the component. Then you can narrow the circuit down to certain components. But be fore you do anything you have to test for power/ground at the connector/terminal/component thats giving you trouble. Not in the middle of the circuit like the PNP switch...Thats a waste of a step this early in Diagnosis.

Best bet is to get you a $15 Chiltons manual from like Advance/Vatozone/Oreillys. Wiring Diagram in back. It will be your freind.

Yes, Yours have an underhood Fuse Block and one on the right hand side of the Dash panel.

Its the brake light switch under the dash, should be on the drivers side.. Go to Advance and get a new one so you know what your looking for...

The brake light switch will cause the back up lights to stop working? I know where the fuse boxes are and i have tested all the fuses. They all had power to both sides. Ill go get the book to see the whole wiring diagram. I prob need that anyways. Thanks guys for all the help, if all else fails i think i can just wire them on on a toggle switch hopefully that wont be too much trouble.

I know how to do most things on a vehicle once the problem is found. Taking it to a mechanic around here is highway robbery. Once had a man a six years ago when i was sixteen wanted to charge me three hundred dollars to change the computer and said he would have my truck three days at least. I changed it in ten minutes with the computer costing 80 $ then for an 89 s10. I think ill just stick with working on my trucks myself lol.

A two dollar screwdriving and ten minutes isnt worth 220 dollars labor lol. Yes i believe a man needs to be paid for his work,time, and training but come on.
