I Say Good-bye
Thursday July 28,2011, i said good-bye to one of my best friends JC Ellis.
I remember JC all the way back to my youth days. JC was quiet, soft spoken and had all the best dogs on the
PKC circuit . JC was always the best to us youth hunters. He would sit down beside me and take the time
to talk to me when i was only fifteen years old. I recall thinking wow I was just talking to JC Ellis. He
owns the famous winning dogs. That meant alot to a young youth hunter. Little then, did I know that
we would down the road become partners.
JC and I would talk nearly every big hunt for many years. Then our life became more connected in a way
that I am forever thankful for because in 2009 the PKC World hunt rolled around, MOJO and I were in
the semi-finals and as we stood in line to get our picture taken Dave Juvers walked up and asked me if I
would sell Mojo? I replied "NO", he was not for sale, as soon as Dave walked away, JC came up to me
chuckling and smiling, JC said "Dave try to buy your dog!" I answered "yes", JC continued to chuckle, we talked
about MOJO for very brief moment and as JC walked away he said, "If Robert gets ready to sell his half of
that dog let me know." That November JC bought Roberts half of MOJO....What a partner.....JC ELLIS...
From that day forward JC and I became partners and....thinking back what was so great to me as a youth
then became a blessing to me in my adult life...JC to me was someone who was truly a great friend.....
JC and I spent time talking on the phone several times a week, either about coon dogs or his horses. JC really
enjoyed those horses and he would guide me with advise about MOJO and how to handle with him.
In February I would travel south to Arkansas to meet up with JC and Konk Hayne, and when I would arrive,JC
would be grilling steaks while Konk was taking care of the sweet potatoes.. JC loved his steak and potatoes. Then
we would do what we loved to do, load the 4-wheelers up and off to the woods we would go...Jc would go hunting
every night...ALL NIGHT....He really loved pleasure hunting..and He loved to see a good dog work.
JC would ride the 4-wheeler right up to every tree..He would always be the one to shoot the coon. After several
hours on hunting Konk would say "Captain think we've had enough?" JC would pop his thumb in and out of a MT.DEW
bottle and say..."I think I know a spot where we can tree one more..JC LOVED COONHUNTING>>>>
For me JC was a man I could say ,was supportive and encouraging to me in my life of coon hunting....for example We would reach the final
for of another truck hunt, we would fall short of winning, this was tough because I rally wanted the win and was
so disappointed upon loosing..and i called JC on my way back and would have to tell him, we lost...BUT JC would reply
"Well ya done good, I'm proud of you." I cannot tell you enough how that man made me feel so much better. JC
was a great guy...I enjoyed every moment I was around him and will miss having those times.
There are many more memories that will never be forgotten, and I am so grateful to have had them...JC Ellis was
very good to me and my family in many ways and for that i am truly thankful. JC was a simple man that enjoyed
the simple things in life his family, grandchildren, horses and coon dogs. Jc was a huge supporter in youth coon
hunting. He loved the kids and had a heart as big as Texas...
JC was and ambassador of the competition coon hunting. Also a founding father of the organization we compete
in now. I would even think it's safe to say "THE MOST WINNING OWNER OF PKC COMPETITION COON HOUNDS...AN
ICON."
I am so very honored to have gotten the chance to be partners with JC.. without him, my life will not be the same...
Thinking as we loose someone in life, this is never easy for anyone, but before he left us.. I vowed to JC that I would do my
very best to always make him proud...and to you JC..I think I know a spot where we can tree one more....
JC you're a great man, you will always be remembered, thank you truly for all the great times and lasting memories.
We love you, we will always miss you, and in due time we will see you again...love ya JC....
Scott,Mojo and family
