Hunting in Mi During the Gun Season

Who all hunts during the gun season and do you hunt state land or private?

i hunt no matter what state land private land (where i am givin permisson) the gun hunters arent hunting at night so it dont interfere with any thing i just wait for an hour after dark and when hunting late get out of the woods by 5am

They come out of the timber and the hounds r sent in.I hunt 80% stateland.They have every right to hunt so do I.

I'm up in Mi right now hunting the Flat River State Game Land. Hunted Tuesday and last night and hunting tonite before we head home. We go in at 6:30 and try to be out around 5:00am. We haven't seen or heard any other dogs or any other human being yet. Must be a million deer hunters up here in the daytime but till we get to the woods and get out in the mourning, we aren't seeing another living soul. Absolute coon hunting heaven up here, never hunted anything even close to this good before. Treed 15 last night and it was flat tough to run a coon on that frost.

All my permission is for after deer season. I have one 20 acre spot I can hunt right now. But if I do I will probably lose the property next to it all together. Its only 18 acres but the swamp runs both properties. What would you do? If I don't my young dog has to sit till Dec. unless I can stage some mock hunts for her. I can't seem to catch a coon for that. Any help on live trap bait would help.

my cousin lives in belding and says its like a pumpkin patch during the firearm season...ive also talked to a guy that hunts up there and says it is home to some big coon

We were about 2 miles from Belding last night. It seems like most of the deer hunters and about all the deer camps are on the east end of the area and we have been sticking to the west end. But no conflicts of any kind so far. Two of us came up here and the non-resident Fur Takers licenses cost $150 a piece but I think we should have that cost covered after tonite.

I think we have seen one coon sitting up and have yet to make a tree with more than one coon in it. That really surprises me. We aren't hurting them too bad.

Well we usually hunt more of our private land earlier and save the public land for gun season. One funny story about running into deer hunters (I wasn't there dad and grandpa) Ran into some tracking a deer during bow season and they said, "you them same fu**ers I kicked out of here last year?" Dad "nope were different fu**ers." lol. "I saw them dogs running by lights a flashing (garmins blinking) get on them radio collars and call them back. We got a deer down in here!"

Its not fun to run into pissed off deer hunters I suspect, but you've got a right to hunt the state land, and I'd hit private later at night especially if you have a wide ranging dog. We joke about it now "nope were different fu**ers" haha (he didn't really say it but it made for a good story). "radio collars" "chhtt base to trip, base to trip, abort mission, I repeat abort mission, over chhtt"

Nope.
I enjoy deer hunting as much as I do coon hunting.
I do most of my coonhunting during august and september getting the dogs ready for bear hunting.
Then I coon hunt again (and bow hunt) during october up till deer season.
I'll start coon hunting again in december and go till the snow gets too deep.
