Garmin Dc-30 And Dc-40 Questions...........

Where's the best price on a Garmin 320 and two DC-40 collars? I currently have a Garmin 220 with the DC-30 collars. The cheapest I've been able to find is a Garmin 220 with two DC-40s for $700. That includes the map card and carrying case, with long range antennae. I was told if I buy the Garmin 320 I would have to pay a monthly fee for upgrades, is this true? So what I'm looking for is a Garmin 220 and two DC-40s. Any help or comments will be appreciated. THANK YOU!!!
Jeff Hester

No monthly fees

The 320 has the capability of loading BirdsEye imagery. The annual subscription runs 25-30 bucks. It is comparable to Google Earth on your Astro. After you see it, the 220 looks like watch a black and white tv. You can load all the downloads you want in that 12 months and they will remain on the 320 forever unless you delete it. After the year is up, you cannot download more images unless you get another card. Production is slow and dealers are getting meager lots in. The range is the same as the 220, but is real sweet watching dogs work a draw or out into an open field. There is no longer wondering if they are working a woods or just out loafing in a meadow or such.

dc30 w/ a 320

How many guys have used the new 320 with the dc30t vs the 40. I am gonna buy a 320 but most of the guys I hunt w/ say they like the 30 r the 40s better now than when first came out

There have been some updates through webupdater that has fixed a lot of the quirks on the 40s. The main thing they say where the 30s are better is if the dog is in water. with the 30, the satellite antenna is on the dog's neck where the 40 it would be under water and not send as good of a signal.

Will

I updated my collars today, through Garmin. My 320 won't track over a 1 mile and a few 10ths. I guess I'll be sending it back to Garmin.

This might be a dumb question but i'm gonna ask anyway. Do i have to update my 220 if i get DC 40 collars i love the 30"s i'd soon try to find 2 or 3 more 30's at reasonible price but if i can't and buy 40's do i have to update or upgrade my 220. I don't need the fancy birdseye view just as long as i can tell if there near water or a road is fine by me.

As long as you don't want to add the 4 number pin, you will not have to do any updates. You will not get Birdseye on the 220.

What antenna are you using on the Astro? If you are using the rubber duck I do not see where you are having a problem??? What you are getting is about right if using the rubber duck.
In some situations the truck antenna may not get but a mile but typically the truck antenna should at least double the results of the small rubber antenna.

I also have the telescopic hand held antennae with the 3 foot cord. I lose communication continously. I would have never bought a 320 if I knew it was such a piece of crap. By the time I ship the 320 all over North America. I'm going to have a fortune in it.

You must have gotten a lemon 320.

My bear hunting buddies in Maine both bought new 320 with DC-40 collars and telescopic hand held antennaes. We picked up dogs over 2.4 miles in the mountains and had very little drop out problems.

I have the 320 and when useing the dc40's i have drop outs but it works great with the 30's. Id be lost without the garmin and i think all the hounds are safer than the ones useing the beep beeps

Depends on which resolution you choose. Highest, about 8-10 square miles works good. You can go some farther, but you will pay for it in download time. It is best to have another project to do while you are doing this, because a watched pot never boils. lol
