Those of you that use Ivomec as a worming tool for monthly heartworm, etc...at what age do you start using Ivo, or what age is it safe to use?

I've been using Ivo for 5 years now, dosing properly, with my big dogs but have always waited until the age of 1. I found several worms in my 5 month old pups stool this am and am just wondering if it is safe to dose her with ivo.

I dose with 1cc per 20 lbs of weight. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

1/10 cc per 10 lbs on a grown dog. 5 month old pups, I would still use puppy wormer.

I have always understood Ivomec to be a heart worm preventer. It is not for any other worms. I might be wrong.

I've always been told that it takes more to use it as a wormer than it does for a heartworm prevention. I use 1/10Th cc / 10lbs of the 1% solution once a month for heart worms. Usually start around 3 months by putting it on a dog biscuit or something similar. I've never really used it strictly as a wormer for rounds in small pups but never seem to have worm problems in older dogs since I've been using it year round once a month. Tape worms occasionally but the Ivermectin doesn't get those.

You can start them as early as 8 weeks old if you want to but In my opinion its a waste of money. I usually start them about 6mo. The dosage is 1/10th of a cc per 10lbs of body weight. Most vets around here wont even do a heart worm test until the dog is a year old. It says on the Merial select website( the makers of Ivermec) that it doesnt treat hook worms. I use Safe Guard goat wormer along with the Ivermec to treat the hook worms and my dogs always test negative all the way around on worms. Dogs contract heart worms from mosquitoes so technically theyre is no need to treat them in the winter. I always do though. Hope this helps

After searching old posts, seems like some say Ivo is effective on roundworms (which I assume are the ones I'm finding in the stool), and some say not effective.

Just want to kill these things quickly and efficientlyin this 5 month old pup. 4 dogs and never had a wormy stool in any of them. Looking for a fast, easy route and wasn't sure about Ivo.

I understand that new born pups do not have heartworm filaria because the placenta prevents them. I also also understand they get the eggs from a mosquito only. Then the filaria go through several cycles before the are in the "worm" stage which takes about 9 months altogether if the pup was bit on the day it was born. I would not wait a year. Six months old sounds about right to me. Also I have used it daily on 3 month old pups for thirty days for mange and it worked. 0.1cc / 20 lbs. 1% Ivermec.

Decided to treat with the safeguard powder. 3 day dosing. That will take care of the rounds, hooks, tapes and whips. Will start her on Ivo in 2 weeks at .1 cc per 10 lbs.

Please Guys The Proper Dosage for Liquid Safe Guard Goat Wormer or Liquid Panacur is

For Adult Dogs and Cats 1ml (1cc) per 2.2#s or 4.5 cc per 10#s of body weight.. First Time Worming are for 3 days in a Row and when on a Worming Program its just a Single Dosage..

Pups under 6 months old Get .5 ml per 2.2# or 2.25 cc per 10#s

Dosage and administration Routine treatment of adult dogs and cats 1 ml Panacur
10% Liquid per 1 kg bodyweight as a single oral dose (= 100 mg fenbendazole/kg
bodyweight). Practical dosage recommendations: 2 to 4 kg 4 ml 4 to 8 kg 8 ml 8 to
16 kg 16 ml 16 to 24 kg 24 ml 24 to 32 kg 32 ml 32 to 64 kg 64 ml For dogs
weighing over 64 kg, an extra 10 ml are required for each additional 10 kg
bodyweight.

Puppies and kittens under 6
months of age 0.5 ml Panacur 10% Liquid per kg bodyweight daily for 3
consecutive days given by mouth directly after feeding to unweaned animals or
mixed with food for weaned animals (= 50 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight daily
for 3 days). Practical dosage recommendations: Up to 1 kg 0.5 ml daily for 3 days 1
to 2 kg 1 ml daily for 3 days 2 to 4 kg 2 ml daily for 3 days 4 to 6 kg 3 ml daily for
3 days 6 to 8 kg 4 ml daily for 3 days 8 to 10 kg 5 ml daily for 3 days For puppies
weighing over 10 kg, an extra 0.5 ml is required daily for each additional kg
bodyweight. Puppies should be treated at 2 weeks of age, 5 weeks of age and again
before leaving the breeder's premises..
