Mine is 4 and has never seen a coon in a trap or cage.

I have turned about 10 loose out of a trap and went home and got the dog and brought him back. Not every dog needs to see fur behind wire.

I showed mine dead coon from 3-6 months old. I did drags with dead coon. 7 months was the first time I turned a coon loose for him.

I'ld let her grow for a few months. Bad things can happen with one that age!!

i was trying to get some pups to bark at a coon one night and having no luck so got a 4yr old dual grand out to let her bark at it and she wouldnt even pay it any attention lol... walked over and just stood there as if there wasnt even a coon there... got her sister out and she went nuts on it and the pups got fired up to... turned it loose waited a short while and her and one pup ran and treed it after about a 1/2 mile run

A couple months ago I let my 3 month old pups see one in a live trap. It was commical they way they tried their best to ignore it. They would play close by but would not themselves even look that direction. Now they are 4 and ahalf months old. I shot some coons out last week to the old dogs but they did not pile on. Even though the pups were one at a time they all showed alot of interest and sniffing and jumping back after it was dead but none of them piled on. I don't care really but I have had them pile on at that age but that did not mean anything in the long run.

If your gonna show your pup its 1st coon I'd just keep it back from the pup aways so the coon doesnt scare it. I usually wait till thier atleast 4 months old too. Don't make the mistake of showing them a coon too much either or it WILL be a set back.

A caged Coon is Highly Over rated !! All these Pups (4-1/2 months old and 1 is 7 months old) They all Would Hammer a coon in the Cage, But when the coon is loose in the Training Pen its Totaly Different ... The Coon actualy had the Upper hand and it was a Tiny Coon ...

Be Careful

I've had coons turn back on me when I turned em out of a cage. If your 3 to 4 month old pup gets a whoopin from a coon it may set back or break him. It may also make him hate a coon but, that's a big chance to take. I would just turn the coon loose and not even let it see the coon or cage. Take the dog close to where you turned the coon loose and let it go. Don't want to do this but a couple of times. Its got to learn to go find its own coon.

This one was 3 months and 3 days old. I've not showed her another. She knew what she was bred for. Click on the picture.

Just wondering!!If you show that young pup

A coon in a cage at it's age and it gets the fear of god put thru it's viens and is scared to death of it!! What's your next move with the pup that won't bark at one and is scared of it because she is so young and you were so anxcious to do it so you could see what would happen??? If it goes south for ya!! Your job of getting her started just got harder!! Would you consider her a cull if she gets scared and runs off??
