One of the best squirrel dogs I ever owned was a full blooded Texas Blue Lacy I called Smiley because he was a grinner. At one time, if I could have found a real good Blue Lacy female, I would still be hunting Blue Lacys. I switched to Mt Curs because they were more availible.

There are 2 kinds of Blue Lacys. Some are bred for cattle herding and are bred for tree dogs.

I have a blue lacy that is retired from hunting. He now lives with the in laws. He got hit chasing squirrels and costed my mother-in-law over $1,400 to get his leg fixed and now he can't run as fast or as long as he used to be able to do. He was a former beginner hog dog but is enjoying his retired life. They run on the small side. Anything over 55 lbs is considered a mix. Limited colors: blue (steel grey), red (any shade of red) and tri color. I now run catahoulas.
