anyone use bark collars on their hunting dogs when they are on the chain living in the bark yard???



i have one that i need to teach to be quiet when hes chained up and living outside...hes likely going to live inside sometimes but when im hunting him hard etc, he will be living outside..dead of winter, he can come be a house dog..

but i got neighbors...he cant sit back there and bark...

he has been let bark for his entire life..hes almost 7 months old..hes typically quiet except at nite..he barks all nite i guess..the people that raised him for me tried to quiet him but didnt put much effort into it..they live in the country and could care less...



bark collar seems like my best most effective option...that or a shock collar and when he barks hit the button..i have both collars laying around...


im just super worried that he will never bark again...like when im hunting and WANT him to bark....


so anyone use a bark collar for that purpose??? did it effect them barking when hunting etc??

i got one on my 6 month old pup and keep on him when hes in kennel and take it off when i let him out and he understands ne can bark when i let him out.

don't worry about it a bit. Just put the bark collar on walk away. It won't affect them opening in the woods at all.

And realize that sometimes you get one that'll back with it on anyway!Just make sure you check his neck every few days. Sometimes it'll wear a spot on his neck and dig into the flesh.

Thanx guys...


I think he barks because of the noises in the woods out there..chickens running around etc....and lack of affection and human contact...they played with him and let him off the chain when they could but it wasn't much and he is a dog that lovessssss attention...if I chained him out back id let him run around the fenced in yard anytime we are home and when I go to the farm, trapping etc he will ride along...and can come in the house...just can't be a full time house dog...

He seems to have the brains to be able to learn not to bark when he ain't supposed to....seems to be right smart..but with the energy he has, id bark if I was chained up all day and nite every day too...


If it don't work for me he will make someone a heck of a dog if it gotta come down to that....I hope not...he seems like a really great dog...acts great...I put him in a ton of new situations yesterday and he got along great...had a problem with jumping on people...learned not to do that right away...loves water..jumped in the pool twice! Lol. Gave him his first and 2nd baths yesterday and he did great....just a great dog so far...and ready to start...gunna get a caged coon this weekend and see what he does I think...
