well... i have killed 1 wild hog with mine. dont get me wrong it is not enough gun in general for that but the situation presented itself and i took it. and when i was younger and dumber i saw a kid bet on a 160 yard shot at a white tail deer (no way it could be done) and that dude done a back flip and fell dead! i have saw many many deer killed by them but it is against the law to use them for that here. i use mine for everything...i carry it squirrel hunting but i use solid nose 40 gr. cci ammo for that. they will take a turkey down nice too cause my buddy years ago shot one dead in the bobbing head with his. i just mainly varmint hunt with mine but.... with this new 30 gr. tipped ammo i wonder if you will loose the penetration? i would trust mine out to 200 yards any time on coyotes, but like i said i been shooting a 30 gr. jacketed h.p. .
i will also go ahead a offend someone by saying the 22 wmr is 100 times the gun a 17 will ever be. i hate a 17, but that goes back to thicker skinned animals and longer shots basically PENETRATION is my issue or question. i just had a bad deal on the 17 i had, i could nail it all day at the range but i could not hit game to save my life.
my 22 mag is like an old friend. i pull it up the same every time...you know what i mean.
please do not take all this wrong. i am raising an 11 year old son in the woods. i DO NOT use mine for any type of poaching. i dont want my son doing the stupid things i did. but i love killing coyotes, squirrel for dinner, maybe another hog if it appears, and just alot of range shooting. I JUST HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE 22 WMR but i am real curious about all this new "wildcat" ammo. sorry to take up so much space but i could talk guns all day!
