question for indiana hunters

Last weekend at oaks, I had a 4 dog cast. On the first drop, two of the dogs got struck and were moving fairly good. I asked our guide if they were going around a ridge, he said no, they were in a bean field. To make a long story short, the dogs ended up treed in a yard......1 mile away from where we turned loose according to the garmin. The two dogs were not from indiana. My question is: do you guys have 1 mile races through the beans and if so, is it common?

My dog is straight and he wouldn't mess with that track and went the other way. I was just curious, the two dogs didn't have the coon either.

Field Race

Pastor Mike,

I would say this is not normal in Indiana. Sometimes bean feild races do last awhile and an old coon will alot of times stay in the beans and run in circles, kinda like a fox or a coyote. I had a long 1:15 long race at our RQE hunt the other night ,Boone finally came back after that long race and never did get it out of the beans. One mile is a long way around here in indiana, unless it is a big field. Maybe they couldn't get it out of the beans so they were just moving from one track to another, that could happen with the amount of coons we have around here. I have seen that happen quite a bit in standing fields. The dogs run it for so long and will cross over to hotter track. A coon can move pretty fast in beans and standing corn.

Thanks
Jared

I think the toughest thing a dog ever has to do in Indiana is push a coon out of a bean field. You look at these dogs that hunt the beans a lot, their face is about bald. But can't say I ever had one push a coon through beans for a mile, not sure I ever even seen a mile long bean field around here. I'd guess they were running something off and fell off on a coon, which is just fine as long as they end up with plus points on the card.
