how much to feed a Beagle?

I am currious how much a Beagle eats? Like how many cups of food would you feed say of Purina ONE or Dog Chow to a hard working Beagle or to a Beagle in the off season?

I don't have Beagles, just curious about the amount of feed to feed one if I got into it. Does a working Beagle eat more than a Beagle that is just sitting around? Heck I don't really know how much one even normaly weighs, I know that there are long legged ones and bench legged ones.

Thanks for any info on this.

I feed my dogs about 2 cups of food once a day when their just in their kennel, much more they get overweight fast. When my dogs hunt i may feed 3 to 4 cups a day...... puppies need more food than adults. Adult beagles will eat as much as you give them if they like the food , dont let them get overweight if you cant tell where the chest meets the stomach then their overweight. Beagles weigh from 10 pounds to 30 lbs. when healthy.

These are just based off of my hounds. I will give approx. weights for each for accuracy. Rocco is 28 lbs gets 1.5 cups off season and in heat, gets about 3 in season and in cold. Lilly is 21 lbs gets 1 cup off season and in heat(summer) and about 2 to 2.5 in season. Nova is about 13-14 lbs. Gets 3/4 to 1 in off season and around 1.5 in season. I also look at how the dog looks. If you can't feel there back 2-3 ribs they are a little too heavy. It is trial and error and quality of feed also makes a difference in my opinion. Hope this helps.

This is my young male, Champ, he is just right at weight for right now in my opinion. He is getting run about 3-4 times a week and is getting 2.25 cups of Purina Pro Plan as he has shown to have a very sensitive stomach on other foods, not all are like him in that area.

BC Beagles

That is a nice looking dog, long legged fellow, I had a beagle a long time ago, but it was much like the ones you listed above the pic , smaller.

I bought the dog when she was around 8 yr old or more, and the man said she was benched legged? I guess that means shorter in size? I never fed her bagged dog food, only table scarpes, she sort of stayed in the house, that is the way the fellow I got her from kept her....so did I. She would run a rabbit around me in a circle not futher than 50yds away, I would empty the gun 2 maybe 3 times before killing the varmit, but that little dog would keep bring it by till I got it. She died after about 1 1/2yrs and never got another one.

20 yrs later.... I got some boys now, and a pile of blueticks, but the boys want a inside dog, and well 80lb blue dog is not going to cut it. I am just across the hump to your east, you got anything that fits the discription?

I don't right now, but a very good friend of mine has a little male from a litter he has. His sire is 12 and 3/4 inches and throws a lot of small dogs, 13 or under. You could call him Tim Ogrady 740-391-9806.

Thank you for the compliments on Champ!
