grand nites dont always mean good dog

a friend of mine went across two states to try out a grand nite dog for way up in the money. turns out it wasnt worth 15cent. the only way they made that dog was in small hunts were there was no competition. ukc needs to come up with something to keep these sorry dogs from getting these titles. so just watch what you breed to nite and grand nites dont always mean they are good dogs.

Hard to judge a dog based on one night. That's just the truth of the matter.

I didnt mean all dogs but when you hunt with one for three nights in the winter months and dont see not one coon and tree 12 times do you not think something is wrong.

"paper champions"

the papers don't mean or make the coondog!!

i bought a grnitech champion direct off cold sweat.brought him here{mich.}good coon population.maybe 60% accurate.
if you take any hound too enough hunts, chances are you'll title it out.and with todays economy and gas prices the turn outs are low.
i got a untitled female walker that i've hunted with titled hounds..i wouldn't trade her for them.1st and 1st 80% of the time.pull them to her.be slick and she'd be treed 50ft away with coon.

If you took the average hound now a days, 60% is above average. lol I do want them more accurate than that tho.

i hunted with a grntch that walked to two trees with us. both had coons. everyone i know that has hunted with him says its like he is sixty yrs old. no hunt to him. yet he is a grntch.
several more being made by owners entering several dogs in 2 cast hunts , having 2-3 dogs in same cast. guess who wins. one stud may soon make the repro list like this.
how legit is one made on feed buckets. part of the test is being able to find a coon.

That is the reason I would never buy a dog or pup with an All Grand pedigree. I have seen (and owned a couple) of Grand Nite Champions that could not tree a coon in January. I have seen some that you just had to scratch your head and wonder if it was a bucket feeder Champion, a summer kitten coon Champion, a dog someone sit in the truck and filled out the scorecard, or a dog someone switched papers on. I am sure there are other ways sorry dogs get titles put on them.

Anyone that breeds to or buy a pup out of a Grand Nite Champion needs for that dog to prove he or she is worthy of the tiles. Titles on paper don't prove squat.

60% will never be average here at this house. I don't and will not tolerate it and if you can then more power to ya. a 60% dog is a cull.

If I was a dog buyer (which I'm not).

In one night of hunting I cab tell if I WOULD NOT be interested in buying a dog, but I can't tell for sure if I would be interested in buying. All is takes is a couple of the wrong kind of mistakes and I would take my cash and head home.

How many times have you been out with your very best dog, and you ask yourself," I`ve never seen him do that before"! Well, what if you was trying to sell him on that particular night. Maybe the buyer thought you was trying to pull the wool over his eyes. My point is, hunt him for a week or two, and you should see his consistancy, wheather it`s good or bad!

what most people don't look at you take a dog and hunt in on a bucket most of its life there for almost every time you turn it loose its on a coon track. is that good or bad? to me it ant the best thing in the world to do because most of the time the track don't go far, so the dog never learns how to run a track all that good. when it comes to pleasure hunting do you want a dog that was hunted on a bucket all its life?not me thats what usually causes a dog to hang up on slick trees. in my opinion you hunt a dog by his self no buckets get him use to hunting and learning how to run a track you may spend a lot of nights just walking him around but at the same time he is learning more then most people would think. if the dog ever makes it to be what you want he should be independent and should not hang up on slick trees.

Lets say my measuring stick treed slick once while we were hunting him, and you told me, you`ve seen enough and are done!
In reality, that was the first slick tree he made this month, and he is typically 85% accurate. In your mind, you`re gonna say,"yea, I hunted with him, he`s a slick treein son-of-a-gun! This is all just woulda, coulda, shoulda, but I bet it has happened a bunch!

I hunted with a guy whose dog was doing some things the dog didn't normally do. The way he put it was "that don't belong to that dog" meaning he'd never done it before. After the second "that don't belong to him" comment I said WELL IT DOES TONIGHT! We both died laughing.

What I'm saying is if the dog doesn't GO hunting good every drop or makes several slick trees I don't need to see anymore and its time to head home.

Yep that's me.,

Good pic V, from back in the day when I was surrounded by blue dogs (good ones too)! I remember that tree it was a shagbark hickory den just off the gravel, bottom of the hill down from the Tuna Palace.

yeah seems like now days a nite or grand nite is just another dog. i think they should half to be hunted by there self. not all dogs are me to but what if , think of it this way if your in a nite hunt and a dog is getting second or third tree that are me toing and there pluse points and then the dog with most points gets minuses who would win the me to dog a couple time of that and he is a nite champion.
