Got The Crap Scared Outa Me Last Night

I went hunting last night, made three dumps and treed 2 coons and a den, got home put each dog on a lead and took off the tracking collars, as i went to put my young dog in the pen the door was messed up so i snaped my old dog to the wire or thats what i thought. i fixed the door and turned around and he was gone, with the lead still attached to him. Hes 7 and has the typical old dog mouth, i live about a mile form I 64 and its noisy anyway. i looked for him for 2 hours, finally i walked over the hill to try and get away from the road noise, and low and behold i heard him in there melting the wood, what a relief, i walked to him and there set mr coon. i was mad at first but was thanking the good lord i had found him, all i could imagine was him tangled up and starving. so i petted him up went to the house, form now on they will both be in the kennel before i do anything else.

Teach

Teach him to kennel just like lead and load. I am not beaing sarcasstic either. When I get them out to hunt I say get in the truck and send em that way. If the tailgate is down there are loaded. If not there waiting for me. When I get home I say go to your pen. I walk that way and open the kennel gate and they walk in. With young dogs I just make it a habit to do them the same way each time till they get it. I personally don't like to lead one to the truck from the kennel because of the pulling. I don't put up with pulling in the woods but at home they seem more hard headed. I guess they just want to hunt. Glad you got your dog back unharmed.
