I wouldn't give him a coon unless he trees it ALONE at a year old. In my opinion people give pups too many coon and show them too many coon. Every nice pup I've started saw very little of a coon before they were treeing them. I suppose if you have thin coon it might be necessary but up here it's enough to take a hunt-minded pup into thick coon and there pup will find 'em for himself and the coon will teach the pup that they climb. Just my opinion on the subject and I may be wrong but it's been working for me.

I'll second this.

u take them into a sweetcorn patch or apple trees or whatever the kitten coon are feeding on and they'll find their own coon and a young dog will have no problem figuring out where the coon went after a short time. If they can't by 15 mos. they probably never will. Just my way and it works for me.
