Puppy food ? Yeah I know..........

Got a pup that was raised on Native, love the food but dont wanta drive 70 miles one way to get it, and I need to start switching him over to something.

Some feeds I've tried in the past:

Loyall puppy, wasnt impresed by it
Puppy Chow Large Breed, Seemed to do a good job.
Pro Plan Puppy

I havent tried Diamond puppy, anybody tried it?

I just feed them Extreme Athlete or the Diamond naturals chicken and rice. all are big and fat, with lots of energy. I wouldnt do it any different. They get all the nutrition they need from it and that is all I feed the other dogs in my kennel. The Extreme Athlete is Just Like puppy food. High in protein and fat with all the extras they need for a good foundation as a pup.But thats JMO.

you cant go wrong with the Diamond Naturals.Do some checking around on prices before you buy. prices vary . I pay $26.00 for the Extreme athlete and $23.00 for the Chicken and rice. else where I've seen the Extreme as high as $36.00 and the Chicken and rice for$29.00 so do your homework first before you buy from somewhere.

My last 2 litters, Dec/10 and Feb/11, were both raised on Extreme Athlete. They did great on it.

My litter is on Extreme Athlete too. I really like how they look on it. Mama Flo stayed a good size the whole time they were on her, and the pups are healthy looking without being too roly-poly.

Diamond makes a puppy feed somethging like 30 - 24 about $28 /40 lb. No CORN for those of you worried about it. This is the first litter I have tried it on. The rest were raised on Diamond Maintenace , corn and all and did fine to me.

Even though puppies get plenty of good feed. If you feed them a corn mix those are the ones to cull if they can't handle it. Who wants to spend twice as much to feed a more than likely mediocre hound for the rest of it's natural born life? Now if you buy a two year old grand nite I can see feeding it steak and lobster, but puppies????

One thing I do BELIEVE in, such as one person believes he can feed $90 feed and rattle a bell and roll those bones, that a puppy can be JINXED to succeed Hallelujah., is Lixitonic. It smells and acts the same way as the old Livitamin from years past. Probably overdoes them with Iron but who cares? A half Gallon I got give to me ten years ago still puts the quietus in the HUmp uMPH . Shake a tale feather , I like it.

So let me see?? I have fessed up to raising this litter of pups on a NO CORN diet? Now you get one home and it goes to hell? are you going to sue me because I sold you a pup that is not up to Par?????

What is a good diet?? A fellow went into the YMCA to get a shower. A real fat fellow was getting out of a farther shower and drying off. The first scrounged at him and and said," dam, you fat. Why don''t you dye it?

Big boy said, I might. What color is it now?

I'm more confused NOW than I was BEFORE!

All have to say on this subject is that the few puppies I have raised I Fed either Purina ONE or Members Mark Exceed Lamb and Rice. Both of these are about 26-16. It's the same thing their mother and my other dogs were being fed.
The puppies grew off well but were never rolly polly fat. I never supplement the feed with anything, Not cod liver oil or anything else. I've sever seen a problem with any of them.

I remember what my vet told me once about puppies and joint problems. He said it was best to not feed them foods that made them grow too fast. That their body would outgrow their bones.

So in short, you do not want your pups to be FAT.

But what do I know anyway. I don't raise a litter every time a dog comes in heat.

Did I miss something here? Is he argueing with himself? Get a shrink Bub...It's guys like you that can take a thread and screw it up till it turns into a name calling match like a couple of 5 year olds. no body debated you or disagreed with you except you yourself. the man asked for a opinion and some as such gave theirs.you gave yours and then started a debate with yourself. you gave your opinion now lets move on. this kinda $hit goes on to much on this board and that's it's biggest downfall. It ends up turning people into computer warriors, trying to start fights and not fellow companions having a civil discussion about things in common.

We have had pups get rickets (grow to fast and legs bow out)from puppy chow, so it can happen on anything. Diamond EA is a good food for anything. I have done the puppy chow for 1st 6 months then switch to EA also and they did good. keep them in a clean area and wormed and you should be fine. everyones budget is diffrent. Good Luck

Better yet ~ come to AO and I'll bring you 10 bags!!

Good luck with Mongo girl. You will be one heck of a team. Can NOT wait to see this litter in action. Everyone of these pups went to homes that are going to promote them. Storm is going to a training pen when he turns 8 mOnths old ( like it or not, so I've been told )

Very proud of this litter. I am planning on breeding Rain in 2012 if I can find a male closer to Kentucky River Rowdy then Kane.

I still like diamond naturals, but it has went out of sight here lately.

Kirkland dog food

Fellas if you can try the Kirkland dog food, sold at Costco. Do yourself a favor and do the reviews and ingredients. equal to or better than most hi dollar foods. Here in Michigan I get #40 for $25.

Thanks Cleo, we love him!!! Acutally going to get him a friend today, since these geezers dont wanna play with him!!! Thats bad when you have to get a puppy for your puppy!!

Hey Chad, nice hearing from you. I get the Diamond naturals and Extreme right around the corner from where I live. Literally! the guy that sells it has Chinchillas and made a feed formula and Diamond bought it . Part of the deal was every month he get a royality check and gets any Diamond feed at factory cost. He doesnt care about making money on it ,just enough to cover his costs for unloading it and storing it. call me and we'll go out anytime you want. (419)889-0706 is my cell #. I got old Boomer back but I'm going to push another dog of mine and see if I can finish him out, on top of starting a pup I got. So come on up anytime . I 've got plenty of hunting spots for sure... Kurt
