I don't usually reply to this type of post, but wow the replies I have seen have me scratching my head. First off did anybody notice in the original thread that the dog that started the discussion was a Gr. Nt. Ch.? Sounds like she is doing something right-so much for all the nay sayer posts you see on here by people saying Gr. nt. Ch. dogs don't actually tree coons-since she doesn't me too, it sounds like she trees coon and lots of them. Yet we have people on here that would shoot her-what the heck? You want to feed and hunt a pack of dogs to do what one can? I bet most of the people saying they don't like this type hound are the same people who look for major hunt winners when they pick a stud or pup. Ever been to these major hunts and actually study what type of hound it takes to consistently compete with the big boys? I have, and from my observations, the big hunt winners are the dogs that get away from the pack and tree their own coon. No, these may not be for big game hunters that need a pack, but we are talking coon dogs here. Independence is a fine line it is true. It is a bad thing when a dog leaves when another dog comes in and it is aweful nice to have a dog that will cover if a red hot coon is struck and treed right off the leash. But no dog is perfect, they ALL have a flaw or quirk you aren't going to like. I will take my chances hunting and breeding the independent dog and training it that it is ok when they come to your tree and back you, way before I will follow a pack of coon hounds that act like beagles and leave their trees and or tracks just because they heard another dog open up somewhere else. To each his own I guess.
