We have always had pups kenneled together, it seemed to help them adjust to being without the mother so much easier. They also were quieter together, wouldn't hardly hear a peep out of them, unless they saw you coming with their food. I have had male and females together without any problems, you would want to seperate when it was time for heat to start though. It was a time that folks had a few dogs together in same pen, just added another house if it was crowded !

I've been chastised about this by a lot of people, but I have two littermate brothers that I've kenneled together since they were 8 weeks old (they're now about 1 1/2 years old). They may get a little grouchy with each other sometimes, but they don't fight over their feed or cause problems. The way I see it, all my dogs will learn to be kenneled in a way that's convenient for me, not just for them. Never know when something unexpected may happen and cause them to HAVE to share a kennel with another male.

I have never Understood the Concept of Kenneling Hound Separate ??

Why do people do this ??

For 100s apon 100s of years Hounds have always been Kenneled together

Here in Va. their nearly 30 kennels of Fox hounds which number up to 30 - 60 hounds that live/eat/sleep together 24/7

This is Thornton Hill Hounds which is 30 min. away ..

We have 30+ at the Moment Inc. 8 week old pup thru 8 year old hounds All in Full contact together 24/7

Good point, Majestic. I probably adopted this attitude because the first "group" of dogs I dealt with before I got multiple coonhounds was a deer pack. I keep them 2 to the pen at home, but at the club during deer season all of them will stay in one pen, unless it's on the rare occasion I can split male and female (which isn't necessary). Now, there are only 8 of them, but I don't tolerate fighting...

Cool pic Majestic! And good point too!! We recently had two separate litters of English pups, kept two from each litter (a male and female from each, so that's two males and two females). They've been in the same pen, eating, sleeping, playing together since they were born. They're now 4 months old, almost 5. Other than them gettin a little rowdy when they play, haven't had a problem yet. We have taken two of them out at a time for a few weeks though to get them used to being tied out on a chain. It all comes down to whether you will tolerate an ill dog, dosn't fly around here.

We've also had some of our adult dogs kenneled together when we needed to, they all do fine as well. I think it's all a matter of having a balanced pack of hounds. Ever watched Cesar Millan, the dog whisperer? He might seem a little off, but he knows his stuff. 25 Pitts kenneled together and nary a growl.

Here they are havin a little fun.

Kenneling together

Here is my take on the matter. If they are gonna be aggressive they will do it at some point. I feel if you breed for them to be rough its gonna come out. I will not own a mean dog period. I won't sell it either it will breathe its last breath right there. Kenneling them together is a good thing. I move my pups around with my grown dogs and let them get used to em all. I swap pups with a buddy of mine to get used to more dogs. Most times a dogs demeanor is predetermined. Put em together and spend a lot of time playing with em.

I have always kenneled my pups together and also several of my females share kennels they actually seem more content to have a roommate then to be alone they seem happier I have also kenneled males together before I see no reason why they couldnt stay together .

Kenneling together has never "made" any of my hounds ill or mean. If they ever seem to act that way it gets handled immediately. Maybe I'm just real good at giving butt whoopins'.

Dogs raised in the same pen will do fine, right up until you expect them to grow up to be get alone independant coondogs.

You need to be that dogs only buddy and his boss. If you want to raise 2 dogs that always hunt togeather dandy but you will be feeding 2 to do the job of 1.

Independance

Here we go again with the indepedance dispute. I believe you can make one independant or not. But I also believe its a trait. If they are bred that way it won't. Matter what you put em with. JMO
