Babbling pup??

Got a pup about 7 months old. Ive taken her hunting maybe 10 times now and from the second time in the woods shes been goin all the way and treed a little last time out. My problem is she barks from the time they take off till the time they strike a track. I can tell a difference in her mouth when they are running a track so I no she not just babbling then. Do yall think she will get out of it or should I do somthing to try and correct it.

AT 7 MONTHS SHE IS MOST LIKELY JUST RUNNING THE OTHER DOGS. TRY HER ALONE AND SHE WHAT HAPPENS.

Id be huntin that pup alone. Runnin a pup that young with broke dogs especially if they are fast is a good way to create a babbler and a me tooooo dog, all you have to do now is teach that pup to bark up every tree in the woods and youll have the whole package. HUNT READY.

she is too young. some dogs mature slower than others.Hunt her alone if you are going to hunt her at all. You are in the process of ruining a pup if you keep hunting her with the old dogs and whatever you do leave the E collar off of her.

Just keep her by herself, if she isn't doing much set her up for a couple weeks then try again. She is still real young, don't push her too hard, if it's in her it will come out eventually. I'd much rather have a dog start at 10-12mo than 6mo.

I agree. 10-12 months is fine to start a dog in the woods. If it has been taught to Sit, Come, Load up etc. Every dog in the kennel should be of "pup training " quality. Meaning allowing apupto jump and lick all over it and never make a sound. Are you going to release that pup with the jacked up two year old you are fine tuning for the World hunt or his Great Grandma that she has a chance of keeping up with? I don't like the sound of any pup opening its mouth if it doesn't smell a coon so I think you probably have a hill to climb. I would not give up yet though. I would set her up and give it one more month to physically mature. Take her out on a ten mile dirt road in the middle of the day along with great gandma, grandma, ma, and young hotshot, and turn them all out to follow the truck home for excercise. If she laggs AND opens her mouth I would get rid of her. By then, an 8 month old know nothing pup should be ahead of grandma after about 4 miles . If she is upwith Junior Jackup after six miles and shut up I'd give her another month.

she's probably not fast enough to keep up when they are getting gone so she's barking. single her out like everyone said but take it very easy on her

You might get a surprise on that one. just becouse her tone changes doesn't mean she is working.
My first question would be is she mouthy around the house, kennel or box?

Shes not mouthy at all any other time. I think im gonna give her alittle bit. She is still really young and aint no sense in starting a pup full force in the dead heat of summer.

I have seen it go both ways.

I have a 11 month old pup now that would babble a little when I first started hunting him (he was only about 8 months at the time and had never been hunted). He was big enough to keep up but would occasionally open a few times trying to keep up with my old dog. Now that he caught on, he is the polar opposite. When he opens, so far it's a coon and you won't hear him till he'sl he is on a track. I have been hunting him by himself since about 10 months of age and he is catching on and treeing some coons by himself.

My buddy is hunting a female pup that runs the dog's track from tailgate to tree. I don't know if she runs the coon track in the process or if she is purely running the dogs. She has treed with the other dogs but most likely only because they were also treeing. This is a BH nightime trouble pup. I have always heard they are "young" starters and I often wonder if people hear a pup opening running a dog track and think they are starting young. The only way to know is to hunt them by themself. Too often hunting pups with young dogs and never giving them a chance by themselves creates the "me too" dog's that will only hunt with another dog and won't stick their own tree.

In my opinion, as soon as they start running and treeing with the old dogs consistently it's time to put them in the woods by themselves. To begin with they aren't going to perform anything like they do with the old dogs (if they do, you have something truely special) but it's the only way to insure they learn it for themselves. It takes patience and you've got to be committed to the dog your hunting. Many nights you'll come home empty handed or the pup won't even leave your feet. Even when a pup looks like a million bucks with the old dogs they often struggle when hunted by themselves. When your hard work finally begins to pay off and they start consistently treeing coons by themselves then you've got something to be proud of!
