mechanics help!!

I have a 1990 chevy 1500 getting gas and fire but will not start. Would fouled plugs cause this?

If you have gas, fire and compression you have to run,so make sure fuel press is good, and do a quick compression test on eng to make sure timing has not jumped and if all that is good unhook your exhaust, plugged exhaust or melted down cat will keep from running! Any ck eng. Lite on? Feel free to call 571-233-5819

Cap and rotor even if you are getting spark went through the same thing on a 98. Obviously there could be other things but I would not rule this out.

sounds too me like you aint gettin enough fuel pressure, could be some junk injectors,if it's got fuel and sparks she outa run, even if too just backfire, you would have too get some kind of fire, gas plus spark=explosion of some sort

fire

How do you know if your getting fire then ask about plugs. Have you removed a plug with a plug wire hooked to it and had someone crank the engine over looking for spark. One thing about that vintage of GM's is a 8th of a tank is empty. Should be throttle body being a 90. Can you see gas spraying into the intake having someone cranking the engine. If a plug has fire being grounded and gas is spraying into the intake you should at least have a backfire even if a crank or cam sensor is bad. After cranking the engine, then turn the key off can you hear the fuel pump buzzing for a few seconds.

i had the same problem with my toyota it was v6 it jumped time and would not run pull up #1 and see if it is on top dead center if not . you have to redo belt. or chain but like the other guys said if u got fire and fule it should fire or back fire at least. did it just quit running on u or did something else happen to it.

Last week i went out and started it up, when it got warm it died and would not start back. Yes, I pulled a plug out and saw it spark when someone turned over the engine.I did see gas going into intake and also spitting out of cylinder one when i had plug out. I know it sounds crazy, thats why I put this on here cause this doesnt make sense

Check those ECM fuses under the hood. I had the same thing happen. It acted like the fuel pump was bad, event though I was getting fuel. try those.

Had the same thing happen back a few years ago. Sounds to easy but mine actually fell out on the floor or I never would have found it by myself. Cranked fine but wouldn't even stutter, put it back in and bingo. Don't really know what it was to but mine was inside with all the other little fuses like radio, tail lights , etc.

Well then now your starting to diagnose,so it's either ignition problem are your exhaust is plugged.did you pull a plug out and do a comp. Test on a cylinder. If its150lbs are more your timing is good.so have your tried checking for any eec codes?and My num. Is571-233-5819,I'm tired of typing again.it's hard getting older

it could be more than out of time if the compression numbers are less than 150#'s,if it's real low it could also be the rings,a crappy bore,a junk timing chain/belt,it could b a number of things, how many miles are on this ol turd anyhow?

Check plugs, if gas fouled it will not crank, even off either. Are you getting a good blue arc out of the plug wire at plug? It should have throttle body injection. Both injectors should be spraying a very fine mist of fuel when spinning over. Temp coolant sensors on this year model will give a false reading to the computer ( like -50 degrees) causing the computer to dump way to much fuel into the cylinders.
