Battery life for the collar is the main thing I would like to see improved IMO. It seems this could be done with an update that would program the collar to slow the update rate when the battery reaches certain level of charge.

The antenna connection needs improved on the handheld to make it stronger and not as easily broken by overtightening the antenna's. I would also like to see secondary antenna connection to use with the long range antennas so the rubber one doesn't have to be taken on and off so much.

I just wish they would come up with a collar and handheld that works without constantly trying to improve it.

It works great I see nothing that needs changing for it to work correctly now I would like to see it use google maps as a navigation tool along with a topo card I use my Droid X at times to see the actual coverage of trees/ponds/creeks and such on google maps which is in greater detail than a topo map

Improved collar structer to with stand the punishent the hounds give. Of course better range. Better battery life. A real time Topo map (Like Google Chrome) or like our Droids. Live camera shot of the collar while around the dogs neck. This can all be ahieved.

They need to make it compatible with google earth. Having the maps are nice, you can tell if your dog is by a road or creek or something, but wouldn't it be nice to see if he was on a fence row or tree line or something.

GoogleEarth is definitely the way to go to make an upgrade.

The Price of the DC40 combo with the 220 will drop to where the DC30's are about at right now.. ie Retail is $599 (you'll find them allot cheaper online I'm just going off what Garmin Sells them for)

The DC40's with the New 320 Handheld will be about where you see the DC40 combo's right .. $649 (Again this is what Garmin will sell them for.. not what you can find online.)

DC30's are officially not garanteed past March.. (which Really Sucks!) So if your a DC30 fan, Now is the time, they might last until May or June, but It's anyones guess right now how many Garmin has in their warehouse and How many they'll build for their Last Push. With No Price drop..

These Prices are subject to change..

(I bet there are plenty of Garmin vendors trying to figure out if I'm full of crap right about now.. )

My hope is the fix the Interference messages and Allow more Bandwidth for collars..

Right now ID 9 Interferes with 19,29,39 etc. etc.. So my Hope is that at least we could use and select all of the 50 ID numbers without interfering..

Hopefully this information can help you guys make your decisions.

Buddy

IF this is true it sounds like your either involved or have been talking to someone who is. In which case I would think that would be a NO NO.

Your probably right.. I should just shut up take Money and keep folks in the dark..

Funny thing, I almost Took a Job at Garmin since they are local here, I have a couple College friends that have the "pleasure" of working at Garmin.. It's amazing what you can figure out over a Case of Beer .. I didn't know then how Helpful it would be. I'm still trying to find a Friend in the Astro Department so that they'll actually listen to what us Common folks are wanting..

Until I sign an agreement with Garmin and they plop one of these buggers in my Hands to give the hound world an Honest Evaluation of it, both Pro's and Con's (unlike the DC40's).. It's Game on!

I would like to be able to use them around 2 way radios of any kind without burning them up. Hate shutting them off just to talk on the radio or if I'm with another truck and they key up. I don't have a issue with anything else. Battery life increase in the collar would be great too.

On the link he posted ,,they are talking about the 320 reciever and a DC50 coming soon.

Well I waited 2 yrs for Marshall or other manufacturers to come out with a GPS system,,2 weeks ago I broke down and got a Garmin to find out now new technology is on its way.. If the new receiver has a better map on it I'm ready to trade up.

I did the same thing, but I'll keep mine if it keeps working ok. At least for a while.

Has anyone seen the new sportdog gps? Its gps/shock collar combo on same collar. Says same range as garmin. Supposed to be available this year. Saw it at a sportsman show.

The DC50 isn't anytime soon..That's mostly speculation.. I just have that text there for people who are searching for DC50 Rumors.. Nothing to get excited about yet..

The thing about the Sport dog that I find the most disappointing and what won't work for me is It's not going to have Maps on it..

Just last weekend the Maps Saved my Ass while running a Cat I could tell when the dogs were going to hit the Main line and I was able to Let the Logging trucks know that I had dogs crossing.. I would have had a Heck of a Time Doing that without having the Maps...

I hope this is true, & that Garmin starts selling them asap, 'cause I'm in need of a Garmin handheld to replace the one I ran over a couple weeks ago, & a new model ought to cause a bunch of slightly used/new Astro 220's to be for sale on the cheap!
