I just got this e-mail from a fellow that has a pup out of my last litter. I don't really know what to tell him, I've never had to break a dog from climbing.

Zack and I took skeet out Saturday night for a hour. He got on a coon right away had it treed in a few minutes, as we were walking in to the tree I shined the top saw a pair of eyes walked a little closer saw additional eyes about ten feet lower. When we got closer we realized it was Skeet 30 to 40 ft in the tree. He was about ten feet below the coon barking away.
I figured there was know way he would get down without falling and at they very least breaking his legs or back. when I called him he slowly turned around and hugged the tree and climbed back down face first, I don't know how he did it but he did. We tried to video tape it with Zacks cell phone but he was to panicked about him getting hurt. He is climbing more and more I have watched him climb a vertical tree by gripping or hugging up to 15 to 18 ft, my brother witnessed that climb. I'm not sure how to stop that climbing, my fear some day he will pay with his life.


Any suggestions folks?

Tell him not to worry, as the Ladner BMC dogs are like cats, they land on their feet.

Don't know how you break them. My treeing cur used to do it. She fell over 20 feet out of a tree and I thought she was dead. She hit another tree on the way down and made a thud. She hit the ground and spun around a little bit and dropped on her side panting. I was all ready to put her out of her misery. I pulled up my gun and thought if she starts quivering I am going to have to shoot her. She layed there panting for minutes and got up confused. After a while she settled down but was confused for a good time. That broke her from climbing trees but she very well could have died. It might seem neat but dogs aren't cats.

My buddy had a female walker that would climb and one night she fell and broke her leg. Never got her to stop climbing.
