Safe Gaurd Paste

Was reading on here that it's good for tape worms. Problem I ran into is that the Southern States near me only sells the paste...which seems hard to measure. If anyone has used the paste that is advertised for use in horses and has a good answer, I would appreciate the info. Also, should I expect to see a lot of dead worms in their stools after a day or so?

I use safeguard paste and it works great. You need to give them about an inch out of the tube 3 days in a row. Giveing them more will not hurt them, its a very safe wormer.

I have been using safe guard paste wormer for years. one click of the tube for each beagle every other month. When starting use three days in a row. I also use iromec for heart worms. Both work great for me.

I am really surprised at the amount of times this subject comes up on Beagle Message Boards. Safeguard active ingredient fenbendazole will kill taenia tapeworms only. This is NOT the tapeworm your dog is most likely to have. It is an effective wormer on Round, Whip, and Hook worms. The best thing for Tape worms is Praziquantel, which is more commonly known as Droncit. I use Equimax horse wormer and have done so for years . I give it once a month during the mosquito season for heartworms( ivermectin) and in the Winter months when I see tapeworms, it will kill all of your dog's tapeworms, it contains Praziquantel, hope this information is helpful.

CSG, I'll admit to putting some big words out there, but it wouldn't be honest of me to take the credit for the spelling, I usually have ole Silky Joe here beside me and if I am having trouble with spelling a word I just ask ole Joe. I got my first litter of Great Grandpups out of ole Joe and you ought to hear the malfs on them.

Game over, You can use the safeguard for six week old puppies if you already have it. If not, I would go with something with the active ingredient Pyrantel Pamoate. It is usually cheaper if you know what to buy and nothing is more effective against roundworms, ( which is what your pups are going to have ) as well as easy on their maturing system. Go to K-Mart or WalMart and buy Hartz Wormer containing Pyrantel Pamoate , same wormer as Nemex, etc: at half the cost.

Just wanted to mention another wormer for those of us who do not want to use off-label stuff. Drontal Plus, takes care of tapeworms, Whips, Round, and Hooks. Good stuff but is not a heartworm preventive.

j-ooten, You are right about some supply companies advertizing medications which are the same as Drontal, and if tapeworms are your only concern they will do the job. If you want to kill whips, hooks, and round worms as well, then Drontal and medications which are the equivalent of Drontal will not do it. Drontal and Drontal Plus are two different Medications. They both contain the active ingredient praziquantel, but the similarity stops there. Once again, hope this information is helpful.

Guys, Once again make sure you get the equivalent of Drontal Plus and not Drontal. I told a buddy of mine about this prior to him buying some and he still ended up with Drontal instead of Drontal plus ,and then he swore Drontal plus would not kill whips and Hooks, he simply had the wrong medication.
