Snake dog...

My feist female got bred by something last year and had pups. I kept one of them for my girls to play with in the yard. She looks like a feist but is quite a bit smaller than her mother. Anyway, she's started catching snakes and bringing them up on the porch. So far they have been dead, but the first time she leaves a live one there she'll be in trouble. Is this pretty common for feists? Also yesterday she walked to the mailbox with me and on our way back she threw her head up like she smelled something and darted over into the yard and was really tracking something. Does a snake have a strong smell that would be easily winded?
Thanks for info.

Have a treeing cur and breed her to a fiest. The treeing cur kills snakes and the pup I had off of her killed anything that wasn't supposed to be in the yard, lots of snakes, rats, mice, chipmunks, possum, groundhogs, and don't ask me how but bats.

That is just the nature of feist. If I leave mine loose she has dead critters all over the yard.

I would make sure she had rabies shots, bats can be rabid.

any rat terriers in your neighborhood? considering the pups size, perhaps that's what bred your feist ? The best snake dog i have ever seen, was a rat terrier.

rat terrier

As a matter of fact there is a rat terrier, but this pup looks nothing like him. I guess she could have gotten his size and her mothers color and appearance.

Everyone of my Feists will kill a snake. I think it is a Feists nature to kill any varmint they can find.
