Big money

I been adding things up and reading about litter nomination and registering litters and things of that sort. The only way a breeder could even possibly BREAK EVEN is if they charge $400 per puppy. Less than that and it costs them to breed a female and sell puppys. WOW ! And thats not even counting PKC ! That would likely double that figure.

THAT'S WHY YOU REALLY HAVE TO LOVE YOUR HOUNDS AND PRODUCING PUPS THAT YOU ENJOY SEEING PEOPLE ENJOYING HUNTING. CAUSE THE MONEY IS NOT AN ISSUE. WE'VE GIVEN AWAY MORE THAN WE WILL EVER SELL. LOL.

I took my female to Ohio to be bred sunday and will go back and pick her up this week or next. So far I have figured it will cost me about 500$ to get the pups to 6 weeks old and that is with a free stud fee.

140 gas
120 puppy food, 3 bags of pro plan
20 litter registration
150 performance program, 25 each for 6 pups
25 puppy wormer
50 puppy shots

Thats 505$. I am planning on keeping 2 and 1 going to the stud owner. If she has 6 pups I will need to sell the other 3 for around 175$ a piece just to break even.

It would be much higher if I had to pay a stud fee or PKC registration on top of that.

I can't see how and why stud owners are offering free stud fee. I have been loosing money ever since I started studding him out. But I'm not breeding him to every brood female that comes to calling either. I have raised and sold pups, but never have I lost money on them, didn't make a lot either.

I CAN TELL YOU WHY WE ARE OFFERING FREE STUD FEE ON SID.

1. HE HAS BEEN BRED 38 TIMES. 31 TO OUTSIDE FEMALES. OF THOSE 31 TIMES WE HAVE TAKEN A MONETARY FEE 6 TIMES. THE REST OF THE TIME IT'S BEEN PICK OF THE LITTER OR FREE.

2. WE HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THIS FOR THE MONEY, WE ARE IN IT TO MEET NEW PEOPLE, PRODUCE A LINE OF DOGS THAT PEOPLE ENJOY HUNTING, AND TO MAKE A BUNCH OF FRIENDS DOING IT. SO FAR, WE ARE ACCOMPLISHING THAT GOAL!

3. THE ECONOMY IS SO BAD, WE FEEL IF WE CAN HELP SOMEONE GET THEIR NICE FEMALE BRED AND GET THEM A LITTER OF PUPS THAT THEY CAN BE PROUD OF THEN WE FEEL THAT WE HAVE DONE OUR PART.

UKC HUNTER WE GIVE PUPS TO PEOPLE THAT HAVE ALREADY BRED, RAISED, TRAINED, AND HUNTED AND PROVED BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT THAT THEY ARE SERIOUS ABOUT SUPPORTING SID AND OUR LINE OF DOGS. THAT IS OUR REWARD FOR THEIR SUPPORT.

Christy,
in reading your post, it sounds like the people that are asking for money, are all doing it for the wrong reasons. Gosh, I guess I should feel guilty, for asking money for achieving the same goal. Sorry, but I'm offering a service with my stud, the same as others have done to me. I have never received any free stud service, free pups, or anything else, and I'm not looking for it either. I meet knew people all the time by being honest, offering a good product, using the same product, and standing behind it. It cost me a lot money to enjoy this sport, and to offer my dog for stud, promotions, advertising, and when people sell their pups off my stud, they make good money, so why should I give away the stud fee. Now, when I get a pup out of the litter, that is payment for the stud service. I, most of the times, help out with the cost of the fee, with cut rates, but I can't see paying the stud up for Performance or super states, and then studding him for free. Making money on this isn't happening, but loosing, isn't my goal either. I guess, "to each is own", or something like that.

TO BE HONEST...I COULD CARE LESS WHAT OTHERS DO WITH THEIR STUD. WHAT WE DO WITH SID IS WHAT WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE WITH OUR OTHER DOGS AS WELL.

PEOPLE THAT BREED AND OWN PUPS OFF OF SID GET HATS DVDS ALL KINDS OF NEAT STUFF AS A THANK YOU FROM US FOR BELIEVING IN AND PROMOTING OUR LINE OF DOGS JUST LIKE WE DO. WE DONT CHARGE A DIME FOR ANY OF IT BECAUSE WITHOUT THEOR SUPPORT TEAM SID IS NOT POSSIBLE.

virgil, is the performance program price litter nomination AND permanent registration for each pup??

if im reading it correctly its 25 bucks to nominate the entire litter into the program before 6mo

then another 25$ per pup to permanently put them in the performance program..

i may be wrong....

were expecting a litter in a month...were planning on nominating the litter and letting the owners take it from there...

same with kennel club registrations...nominate just the litter and let the buyers do what they want...

yes if we pay them all up permanently before selling we could ask more per pup....but, if someone dont hunt PKC or UKC and doesnt want to permanently register them in PKC or UKC or doesnt care about the performance program (i dont know why they wouldnt if they hunt UKC hunts..but never know) they dont gotta worry about the fees..if they do, its extra cost, but we dont plan on selling the pups for huge money either...

maybe im reading things wrong....
