Here's my best explanation on it all, but Alan can correct anything I get wrong.
Show person, nite hunt handler, show dog and nite hunt dog of the year are based on a points system. Points are earned at Walker Sectionals and other major events around the country to determine the winners.
Hall of Fame Male and Female. Any member can nominate a dog by writing a nomination letter. That gets the dog on the ballot, which is mailed out to all TWB&FA members. Ballots are mailed back by members (never enough) and counted to determine the winners.
Breeder of the year is awarded to the breeder of the Annual Lee Crawford Pup Extravaganza overall winner.
Member of the Year is voted on and awarded by the board of directors, probably because they're most familiar with who does a lot of the "behind the scenes" work that nobody sees, but is critical to making the association run smoothly. Things like writing the newsletter/ballot, addressing and stuffing the 1,500 or so envelopes to needed to mail the newsletter, writing meeting minutes, procssing the 1,500 or so memberships we get each year, maintaining the membership list, receiving ads and compiling the annual yearbook, organizing new sectionals, driving all over the country to attend sectionals/hunts and take TWB&FA memberships, being MOH or BSJ at Walker Days when everyone else gets to enter, staying up all night to assist a MOH and clean up fairgrounds at 6:00AM on Sunday morning of Walker Days.
That basically sums it all up. Any and all suggestions can be directed to one of the officers or directors.
Thanks!
