Anyone have pointers or other bird dogs?

I've always loved pointers too, but I've not been around them really. I'd love to go on a bird hunt with someone and see how pointers work. How do they handle compared to hounds? I can't say that I would ever be interested in bird dogs or bird hunting enough to get my own pointer, but I would be interested in going with someone else just for the experience. Of course you don't know until you try. I might love it so much that I just had to have a pointer. lol

i have had german shorthairs and brittanies. they are wonderful to work with. the shorthair i think, jmo, is easily trained, but, hyper. the brittany is calm, loving and also easily trained. no matter what dog you work with, it is pure exhillaration to have one do what it is bred to do.

here is a pic of my shorthair. akc, kelldean's kahlua and cream

she was hyper, but a darn good bird dog. natural talent has everything to do with it.

compared to hounds, i would say the bird dog, sporting breed, is easier. jmo. the hound tends to have more of a mind and will of their own. free thinkers, if you may.

Here is a pic of Ruger, our German Shorthair. He is one of the coolest dogs I've ever owned. I was very against ever having a dog in the house. But the WIFE said so (smiles). We got him at 7 weeks old and had him house broke in 3 days!!!! I just talk to him out in the field and he does what I want or goes were we think he needs to hunt. Its really a change from hounds cuz they never seem to listen till you get mad!!
