This might sound weird but I think their is something to the saying Mamma's Boy and Daddy's girl. I have a female that when we are out hunting she is all about daddy. The males are all about mamma. Who knows.

I've always prefered a male, but not for any particular reason. Just always liked and got along with a male dog better than a female.

I like to hunt females they seem to have hunting on their mind and only come in heat twice a year.I've only owned 5 males my whole life and they are in heat all the time.

I will hunt either, they're both the same when they are under a coon. I prefer to hunt males with a good mindset- when you hunt them there mind is on hunting and only hunting.

Males or Females!

I hunt both males and females. The only problem with females is they come in heat, mine usually comes in the first week of SEASON, and acts a little crazy the first few turnouts after she comes out of heat. But it makes no difference to me as long as they'll tree coons I'll hunt them.

I prefer to hunt male dogs. You don't have to worry about cycles and I like a bigger deeper voiced hound that you just can't get from a female

Most of the time I am happy just treeing a raccoon, I don't care if it is a male or female raccoon, just so it is a raccoon. You mean to tell me that some people try train their dogs to hunt only for male raccoons, or female raccoons?

Oh...

You meant "What do you hunt with, males or females?"

I hunt with both, for both.

huh im slow

do ya mean the female hunts male coons and the male dog hunts female coons? thats a first for me.

I hunt both...... males are stronger, females can be lighter and quicker and smarter...in my experience, hunting together well the boys are the instigators,,,,I'll say that much.

I prefer females. In my experience females mature faster, seem smarter, are more eager to please and hunt better.

I agree Mike.
I just seem to get along with a female better.
I have an 11 month old male now that I realy like, but he still has alot of play in him.
I would realy like to train a good male dog, but I just dont know if I have the patience to put up with all the headaches of a male. Riding females and always marking every little bush they run by!!!!
Females just seem to always to have their mind on what they are suppose to be doing, HUNTING!!!

hu. I never really thought about that but your right. If you turn lose within two miles of a female that's in you might as well hang it up.

on average
im a firm believer that a female is smarter, easier to handle and is more eager to please.
but a male usually has a bigger mouth, hunts harder(farther) and just like humans they are bigger, stronger and faster.
nose is equal imo
pick your poison

proven fact that male pups take female gene traights and females take male traights so if you want a pup like mommy or daddy u need to consider that fact , i also prefer females !

Can you cite where you received this "proven fact"? I have never heard this before.
