Pups first day afield

I had asked yall opinions on when to start a pup. Well today I took my 4.5 month old out. Its good rabbit hunting in this area, but did not expect to shoot at anything.
The pup did excellant. Nose down in the snow most all the time. And when he did come across an area where rabbits had been "thumpin", he got all excited, back and forth he went. I even thought he was gonna open! Of course he had no idea what to do with a track, but genetics told him that this was the smell he was bred to follow!
Couldnt be happier with the pup.

Sounds like he will be taking off soon. Keep him in the scent and enjoy him starting.

Thanks

Ya, this pup seems real gamey! I wont be pushing him anytime soon, but will get him out once or twice a week just to run.

Thanks CSG

You are exactly right about letting the dog teach me. I have coonhunted all my life, in competition for probably the last 30 years. Put plenty of tittles on dogs and killed a whole lot of coon.

So now I come the the Beagle. I have owned several country beagles over the years, and had one I registered in UKC back as a FS beagle. Put him in one hunt, took a 4th place. Dog was killed on the road later that month.

Now I'm back. The competition beagle world has taken large steps forward from what I can tell. I hope to learn and have fun in this new endeavor.

I TO AM LIKE MY FATHER!

I had a real bad issue with turkeys while I was a child and after childhood---jua flat loved to call em in and watch em take a load of buckshot---before long had folks askin me to teach em to hunt em sometimes it worked out and got to take a few of them fellows out and most of the time they gota murder a few they would ask me how or why do you do the things you do-----my answer was jus set back and let them help you become there maker! Same as in life with every-other thing kick back with open eyes and let it all sink in learn from others and well its like a deck of cards JUS GOTA FEEL IT OUT WHEN TO THROW DOWN IT ALL! My friend you are on the right page to sucess!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck wit haven the time to do it proper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SAME WAY DAD DID OTHERS IN THE TROUT STREAMS!
