We are paying about the same for it here in northeast Missouri and Quincy Il. farm supply. I think the company sets the price for the distributors. Frankly, I think Black Gold is a little high, but I have had such good luck with it, I don't want to switch. I raised a litter of 13 puppies on it and they all were fat and sassy. My old Coon hound, wouldn't eat anything else. He would starve before he would eat any other dog food. I feed it to my little ratties and they have so much energy that it would be really hard for the coyotes to keep up with them. lol
The only thing about Black Gold I don't like is that you can't get a break for buying it in bulk. You have to buy a truck load to get any kind of break in the price. But after begging our local farm supply to carry it it, they found that they have trouble keeping it in as it is the best selling dog food that they have.
I find that my dogs have less stool with it and therefore, less clean up for the Kennel and I don't have to feed as much. I feed my four kennel ratties one scant scoop between the four of them and my two ratties in the house only eat about a half gallon per week or less. But, my new English coonhound is a gluten and he will eat it until it is gone no matter how much you put in front of him. So, he gets about 3 cups per day.
They are all a little on the fat side, but I like it in the winter time. In the summer, we cut them down even a little more. It costs more to feed my dogs than my 14 head of horses.
So, I guess that is enough of a testimonial for Black Gold. We also give our hunting dogs fastrack when they are hunting hard and that keeps their digestive system clean and they absorb all of the nutrients in the dog food and boosts their immune system.
