What is the most produced food product in these States. How could your State best help you achive and help make things work better for the farmer?
Here in Alabama we raise peanuts as our largest crop, however we raise in my area road crops such as tomato's, peas sweet corn,cucumbers etc.
I am on the ag committe and want to best serve the farmer. I want to know what would help the most. I know we all need money but that is not what im looking for.
If you have anything or any thoughts on this matter it would be much appreciated.
I would also like to come to each of these States and meet with some of the farmers and look and see what needs to be addressed in the farming field to help better us as a Nation. thank you for your thoughts on this.

i was raised on a farm and worked on one all my high school years and really wanted to get into farming but around where i live you cant get loans for equipment and to plant crops so the only way to get started is to inherit into it.... i would like to see it become easier to get started because where i live when the older farmers retire everybody just sets it all out in pine trees and let thier equipment rust down because no one can afford to by it

I would like to see them concentrate more on the small farmer. Everything is geared toward the large farm. What I mean by small farm is 10 - 100 acres. To me, somebody farming 500, 1000, 2000 acres is not small. They also need to eliminate a lot of these programs. Getting paid not to put a crop out is crazy. If you can get more money out of the CRP then your crop then perhaps you need to look at how your running your operation.

here in my area it seems like when the older farmers pass on thier kids have no interst in the farm they sell it next think you know big housing delopment comes in bulids city folks big high dollar houses on it fellow that bought my granpaps farm back in 60s kept it till about 5 yrs ago sold it off in lots except for abot 5 acres to keep his horses on now every winter he loads his horses up he and his wife go to florida in the winter where he bought them a little place so there goes another farm

There are several issues at hand. Are you involved with the Alabama Farmers Federation? They should have a prioritized list of things that could help us. We as farmers vote on it at the organizational meeting each february. That would be a great place to start. Hopefully I will see you at the meeting this year.

The farmers killed themselves when they quit being diverse, now days most of them only use their farms for one thing wether it be cropping, milking, beef whatever all their eggs are in one basket. Just think if the republicans of this country only invested in one stock? Another problem is they all send the boys off to college, the farmers by my use all hired labor. Not to go off on politics but I live in a very republican run farmer backed area and the ones by me live very well. There are literally thousands of acres which used to be beef pasture now sitting idle because they just raise hogs, dairy, or crops. DIVERSIFY!!!!!!!
