I need advice on how to get a dog to stay treed on tree longer. Any info would be appreciated.

i have a southern pines jet dog that does the same thing he wont stay treed. ive tried whiping him shocking etc. but nothing seems to work. i need help on this one too

You guys probably arent going to get much help on this.....I have tied them to the tree and left them for a while, with limited results.

I dont want to be a downer, but this is a tough thing to fix....either they will come around, or they wont.

Hunt your dog with a stay put tree dog. Bring your dog in to this dogs tree and tie him\her back off the tree . Shoot the coon out to the stay put dog with your dog watching. Do not let your dog have it. take him back home leave him alone for 2 or 3 days. Take him hunting see if it helps. Never shock a dog at the tree he might get the wrong idea. if that don"nt work shoot coon out using stay put dog. shoot coon out let both dogs get a little fur in their mouths. Take coon put in fork of tree just out of his reach with your dog seeing you let him tree on it if he will while you pet and praise him. leave coon in fork of tree. go home for day or so. these things might help might not. i have always left the coon up in the tree and tied the dog to it then hunted the other dogs. It hasn't failed yet

If I really liked a young dog that was showing a lot of promise, I would hunt him hard for about 60 days completely by himself. Sounds like he has a confidence problem and if its in him to make it , hunting him alone like this will do the trick! If it doesnt work you just have to move on to the next dog.

There has been a lot of great advice given on how to keep a hound treed. I would try soemt hat has been mentioned on this board. But you need to remember, I have heard this from many old-timers and hsve come to believe them with my own experience. They have told me numerous times that anyone can make a dog go hunt.....but you cannot make a hound tree! You can intise them and praise them but if the hound does not have it in them to tree very much or at all, then that is it. But don't ever give up on a hound until you are finally to the point you are satisfied the dog just will not tree or stay treed. Good luck! I believe every veteran coonhunter has had this problem some where down their path.

Mulberry Blue on this one.............if they don't have it naturally, I'm not gonna try to train it into 'em.......just my opinion. I don't want a dog that I had to more or less train to stay treed in my breedin' program.

Depending on how old the dogs are, they might come out of it, but its not too likely. If they are staying treed but just milling around close you may have a shot at fixing that. But if they are setting down treed and just taking off and leaving, then you might be sunk. A treedog carries a trait that makes him a treedog from generations of hounds before him, if for some reason a hound gets slighted in this department then there is not much you or anybody can do normally. I suggest taking him out in a field with one tree in the middle have a caged coon or let one go maybe that will help.
