Bear Recipes

I was lucky enough to kill a small bear last Saturday and am looking for some recipes on making it fit to eat. I have always preached to my daughters about not killing a critter if your not going to eat it and now they are ready to try this.

Ps: They want me to make the whole thing into jerky. hahaha.

Thanks for your time,
Bruce Beland

Bruce,

Joe Maitland over in Wisconsin makes some of the best Bear Shishkabobs I've ever tasted! Good stuff. He goes by his real name and you might catch him over on the Redbone Classifieds. Who knows; maybe his secret recipe is for his private use only.

Mix coke & ketchup half & half. Marinate bear in this over nite.

Sounds funny but is very easy & tastes great.

My favorite is to cut it into cubes for shiskabob. Marinate it in Italian dressing for four hours. Put it on a skewer with meat, onion, bell pepper, and bacon in any order you prefer. Grill over charcoal and enjoy as good a meal as you will ever eat.

My dad cooks the roast in pressure cooker. Then bakes it in oven with potatoes;carrots, onions. It is very good.

I think bear is the best tasting meat you could eat. Just put it on the weber grill, if anything maybe a little seasoning salt. It takes along time for the heat to penetrate to medium or medium well.

bear meat

I don't know about anyone else, but our camp has found that the sooner you can get them out of the hide & as much fat off as possible, you don't get the strong smell to the meat. We only put burger meat through the grinder 1 time,
and cut all else into roasts. If you like marbling in your meat
you can't beat it. My wife would not touch any wild game meat, till we got married & I started cooking it for her.
Makes some of the best meatloaf you ever swallow.

just make sure you get it done, undercooked bear is just like eating under cooked pork it can make you very ill. But it sure is tasty.
