I have a dog that is positive for parvo and I haven't a clue as to what will happen. Please anyone who has advice for me please I could really use some. I lost a young female to this just this week, she passed away on Wednesday it really hurt see her go like that and I can't do it again. I had no idea what happened to her until my male started acting funny too. I just got back from the vet with him and with bad news he was positive for parvo. They are all litter mates and that's what killed my female. There's a very good chance they all got it. I'm completely dumbfounded and devastated by this I'm trying not to lose hope but this has hit me hard. As if this all weren't enough already on completely unrelated note I had two females one a 11yr old bluetick and a 5 ye old English dog to run away and I have not seen or heard of them since Sunday, so 5 days now. My only guess for them is they were picked up somewhere stolen or got hit by a car and I just have not found them. Normally I will let these two out and they listen very good and never go far but I believe the old bluetick got away and started to run something and my female followed her. I guess God is trying to tell me something but please pray for the young male and the rest of the litter. Three in one week is enough and it's about to kill me. If anyone has ever had a dog with parvo and they made it please tell me what I can do. Thanks to all, Jordan

years ago i had one get sick with parvo, the vet should be able to help you . good luck and hope everything gets better for you

give the pup some pedilite you can get it at the grocory store it will help

Thanks guys I'm open to any ideas. My vet told me to give them Imodium for diarrhea and malox for upset stomach and vomiting. I know fluids are very critical and they need as much as possible, Gatorade and pedialyte are supposed to be about all u do for that. They vet told me they could keep and treat him for 500-700 but it's kind of hard to choose which ones you are willing to pay for and give the best chance to live when you have four others with a very high likelihood for being infected also. At this point prayer and home treatment are all I have left. Thanks again though and any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. God Bless

Pedialite and pepto bismol. Pedialite serves as the IV the vet would give and the Peptol will settle the stomach so they can continue eating and getting nourishment. Hope that it works out. It will be a rough time for a while.

just get the pedialyte into the dog. they can fight. keep hydrated twenty four seven. if she will take that, give her chicken broth for strength.

to keep hydrated, assuming they weigh under 20 pounds, they will need at least 1 to 2 ounces of fluid per hour. Now if they take 4 ounces you can wait about 2 hours before giving them some more (gives you a bit of a break for a nap) but the main thing with parvo is keeping them hydrated.

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone they mean more than you'll ever know. I'm willing to fight it if they are hopefully this one will pull through and the rest can go without catching it, I can only hope and pray. It sounds like keeping them hydrated is probably one of the #1 things. What can I do for nourishment, someone said chicken broth anything else? I'd imagine something that wont come back up on them or be hard on their stomach. Again I appreciate all kind words and help anymore advice just let me know. Thanks again, Jordan

The best way to keep your pup hydrated would be to inject IV fluid under the skin. However you do it, you have to be diligent about it. DON'T give up! I don't know anything about parvo, but I do know about praying. I will be praying for you and the pup(s) and the safe return of your older dogs. Please keep us posted.

Try cooked hambuger and rice if they will eat it! Stay with the pedilyte and the will make if you fight they will good luck

Every one on this post all have the right instructions on treating your pup..But ...talk to your vet....he should be able to help you out too.

Alot of it depends on the pups ability to fight it off but Ellie Mae is right...about the IV PATCH under the skin....lots of fluids.Imodium for diarrhea .... antibioctic to stop secondary infections .....and when the diarrhea slows down ...slowly introduce...rice...it is easy on the stomach...

rice and chicken broth. easy on stomach and the rest of the digestive track.

if you can get liver, boil, bake and grind up fine. put some into the chicken broth, not alot, but will help.

if you have to, get a syringe without the needle, fill it full of pedialyte, and force her to drink. watch you dont get it into her windpipe. just put it at the back of her mouth through the side of her mouth.

Thanks again everyone I'm trying everything and most of what has been said here. I'm keeping faith that this male and the rest will pull through. I can't quit tell if any of the others have got it yet although their are some signs that a few may. The male is going on about day two now. If this stuff acts as quickly as it did on the female that didn't make it, then hopefully if he hangs on another couple days he should pull through. I've got them all separated and just praying for the best. I'm pretty attached to these dogs I raised them from pups, their daddy died not long after they were born and the mom ended up having to be spayed due to a infection, she's one of the two gone missing now. I just never had the heart to sell them after all they'd been through. They're a year old now, my plans was to hunt them till I figured out which ones I would keep. It's been a rough summer for me now looks like a long winter for them? I just hope I can see them through. Thanks again, Jordan

Get IV fluid from your Vet. Inject it Sub-Q over the rib cage and on the back - keep the pups looking LUMPY from Sub-Q injections. As soon as the lumps go down - give them more.
Your Vet will tell you how much to inject in relation to your pups' size.
