I was looking through some old photos and ran into this one of a blue hound in a pinyon tree with a huge cinnamon boar. Leo was his name, and he was the sir to my blue Ryan dog. I have another photo somewhere of Leo and an old red male in the tree with the same bear. Red was the sir of Leo and both of them loved the bear, were tough footed and a bear was in trouble once they jumped him.
Well my blue Ryan dog came from those two and there isn't any doubt that he would have loved the bears as well--and he did! I guess that's why people like me believe great dogs come from great dogs and realize their full potential when they fall into the hands of a tough, serious hunter.
We had sent seven hounds after this bear late one November afternoon and only three dogs finished him, Red, Leo and my young LionHeart female. Those three dogs kept him all night and we found our way into this tree at daylight. Red and Leo were up in the tree face barking those bear who was whipped down and probably happy to see us. My young LionHeart dog was at the foot of the tree chopped out, waiting for the bear to hit the ground. A man has to love the memories..........
