Now is the time......

For all you people to start keeping track of your dogs accuracy and posting your percentages. Funny how when you can see start to see the trees all this accuracy talk tends to come to a halt. .

Thats what I say everytime people start about having those 90 and 95 percent dogs. When they actually keep track and compute the percentages its usually a lot closer to 50

I'll start!!

Haven't been hunting in over a week (isn't that horrible kinda lost my GO when Mister died), but the last night I was out was with my good friend Kevin Lundholm. We made three drops, I was hunting Thor he was hunting Mojo. My brother was also hunting an English female.

First drop Thor made one tree, seen one coon.
Second drop Thor made another tree and seen another coon.
Third drop, Thor caught a coon on the ground and Dixie and Mojo were found in a hole.

All this great weather I need to get my butt in the woods, just can't seem to find where I put my "go get 'em"...

If anything the percentages are going up. I was in cast Saturday night we walked to 6 trees and seen 6 coon. In all reality my percentages stay the same, leaves or no leaves.

With that being said an Out of Stater is coming to hunt Friday night and they will probably look like SH!t.

Actually, I started keeping track on a young dog this summer. Between the slicks, den trees, and times I have caught her off of private property she is right at 70%.

Funny thing is I have had a harder time seeing the coons lately than earlier this year. Of course it is season and the coons are being shot at, and they aren't so quick to look. Now, I am finding them by their fur.

I never check percentage in the summer.

What's the point? You could hide a bear in many trees, especially back home where the undergrowth is thick.

No, IMO the only way to check the accuracy of a dog is in the winter, with the leaves off.

I just saw this and looked back through the notebook I use to keep fairly detailed notes on my Spring 1yr old Sunrise pup. I stopped making entries a couple of weeks ago when I put him on the back-burner, to get this pup ready that I'm hunting in the Babystakes this Saturday night.

The last 2 pages(2pages-front & back) show the last 8 consecutive nights I hunted him.

42 - Trees made
37 - coon seen(counting only 1 per tree)
1 - coon caught on ground
2 - den trees
3 - slick/circle
_______________

37-Coons/42-Trees
= .880952 or 88.1%

That was a dang good run for a 16mth old, but I doubt very seriously that I'll be able to tell you that he's still 88% accurate by the time I finish documenting 365 nights. Notice that when I calculate his accuracy-percentage, that I'm counting Dens & legitimate Circle-trees the same as Slick-trees. Either I saw the coon, or I didn't!

Funny thing is all the guys around here that claim to have 90-95% accurate dogs, act like I'm telling them the biggest lie they ever heard, even after I show them the notebook I keep on him!

I'm not sure what that tells me. After all, I'm only claiming he was 88% accurate for 8-straight nights. They're the ones claiming to own dogs that are 98% accurate for a whole freakin' year! I betcha most folks on here that claim to have 90%-plus accurate dogs would have to adjust their figures a bit if they put pen-to-paper instead of Guess-timating. Even as accurate as I'm sure some of those "estimations" probably are! Ha

As of tonight my young dog has treed 7 times and I have saw 7 coon in 12 trips. He is coming along pretty well for thin coon population and as dry as it is.

Got in from the woods a little while ago, had a blast! Gotta love this time of year.

We only made one turnout, but ended up making three split trees. We were hunting Rock (NITECH Walker male owned by Seth Schatzel), Dixie (one of our English females), Thor (NITECH Plott male), and Rebel (my sister's English female).

Rock and Dixie got treed together, had the coon.

Thor got treed, had the coon. We think he caught this one and tangoed with it before it climbed, his muzzle was all torn up and bloody. Coon was dripping blood onto the grass and bushes below it.

Rebel got tree, and also had the coon. BIG Oak, still had a lot of leaves on it. Took us probably 25 minutes to find the coon, it looked at us out of the blue after we squalled for awhile.

Dogs looked good tonight, all went a country mile to get alone and treed but it was worth it in the end.
