Yes, in a discussion of dog behavior, that one is perfectly ridiculous.
Dogs don't reason these things out. They only have two reactions to danger or aggression, fight or flight. The rules disqualify them for fighting in all instances unless you can see the fight start witch is the least likely thing to happen. So all the rules allow them to do is flee. Some dogs will move away to the other side of the tree, back off and tree away from the tree or just take itand keep treeing. But almost no one can train that and I'm not asking that of my dog. I'll take my minus and let the rules get rid of the rough dog.
You say dogs have only two actions fight or flight, but then you gone on and say that they can get back or move around and stay. So I hear from you they can determine something besides fighting or flight. Smart dogs can learn to stay out of trouble and still get the job done. We will never agree on this so lets and go on.
