New Air Rifle Question

Was just wondering if anybody has one. What brand you have and how do you like it. We were thinking about getting one to coonhunt with. I have heard that some of them will shoot like a 22 LR. Thanks, WES

Wes I have a RWS that I bought at Rockingham Co-Op and I think I paid around $295. for it .. Its a .22 Single Pump that about 890 fps ..

But it is very heavy and quite loud !! But I have knocked out Fox Squirrels way out their with a single shot ...

I have never tried it on Coons tho ..

I just check it and its the 350 Magnum Mod.

Here's one on this page http://www.airgundepot.com/rws-air-rifles-22.html

Most are heavy and loud as already mentioned, but the thing I dislike the most are the triggers. They have a really hard trigger pull with about a 1/2 inch of creep.

Another thing to consider is that while they may have the same caliber and fps they won't carry the same kinetic energy due to a ligther weight of the pellet. Despite all that a well placed shot can kill a coon. I just know I wouldn't want to have to rely on one for a large northern coon. Give me a solid 40 grains moving faster than 1000 fps!

Most of the Pellets I shoot are the 26 gr. Crow Magnum ..

The Gun I have weighs an Unbelievable 10#s with the Scope ..

But I have Incressed the FPS by adding 1/8 of a drop of Diesel Fuel in the Pellet Cup Theirs Such a High Compression of the Fuel that it explodes .. I had read it somewhere and Tried it and theirs a Big Difference in FPS ..

I have a wooden Gamo and that sucker is twice as heavy as my 22...........I wouldn't want to carry that one to the woods.

I use the Gamo around the house.

I haven't held the plastic Gamo's to know the weight on them.

The reason I was asking is my hunting buddy got a felony charge now and he cant carry a real gun. He talked to his probation officer and they said he could have a air rifle. Its either that or a bow. LOL Thanks, WES

Most states consider them a firearm.........he may want to double check to be on the safe side.

Wess I was in a little hot water With My "XXXX Wife" about 10 years ago .. Which ended up with No Problems .. But at that that Time I did not want to take any Chances and Sold All my Firearms "Just in Case"

And for the Same reason I ended up using a Pellet Gun for my Hunting !!! for a Year ... I checked the Va. laws and it was OK to have a Air Gun ..

And I did kill a Large 4 legged Critter with it .. But it was a very well place shot ..

He checked on the black powder and that is a no no in VA if you're a felon. He can use a bow, crossbow or an air rifle and thats it. Thanks, WES
