Garmin Collar Upgrade 3.43

I just upgraded both my DC 30's to 3.43. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. Anyone tested the new upgrade? Does it make any real world difference?

Jim,

Haven't noticed a lick of difference. I didn't take the time to look at what the actual upgrades were when I updated it, but I know for sure that sometimes I'm still losing dogs at 4-500 yards and not picking them back up!

Clay and I were talking a while back about the updates. It seems that after each update, my range has either gotten worse or not improved much at all!

I wish Garmin would just get their heads out of their rear ends and do EVERYTHING the right way instead of just a couple things here and there!

We have not updated ours running DC 30 collars loose dogs once in a while but it seems to pick em right back fairly quick. shouldnt jump on a new up date right away wait and see the outcome sometimes it casues other glitches.

I had that problem too. I had to delete my collars then add them back on with different channel numbers. That took care of the problem.

The upgrade supposedly improves the signal between the collar and the sattelites by allowing the collar to aquire more sattelites. Apparently that has been an issue with the 40 collars, poor collar to sattelite reception. That has never been an issue with my 30 collars. I have done all the updates on my collars and handheld and none of them caused any noticeable difference.

None of this stuiff will ever improve useable range because that is a product of transmitt wattage and frequency, both of which are FFC controled and out of Garmins hands. That is prolly why Marshall still doesn't have a GPS, there is no way to improve the range because of FCC limits so Marshall can't improve on Garmin without useing something other than a radio signal to communicate.

I also had the trouble of the 220 not picking up the collars after the update but you can also do a change dog unit type and just pick tree dog again. It will then pick the collar up. That way you don't have to re-type your Dog's name back in. Looks like Garmin would tell you all of this in the update instructions! Larry

i updated my dad's handheld and DC 30 collars yesterday afternoon then went to a hunt after i did the upgrade, and at the end of the hunt when i was recovering my pup i never lost signal once on her collar and i was in some really thick woods, i don't think the range has improved any, but i definately noticed i didnt drop signal like it normally does.
