gotta love the thing you see when out hunting

Took the pup out for a walk in the woods Sat night, sat down for a minute while he was out exploring and we saw this little feller just hanging out. from the tips of his "ear" tufts to his feet he was only about 8 inches tall. Correct me if I am wrong but is this a baby great horned owl?

I stand corrected, thank you. I had never seen a screech owl, heard them, but never seen one. Thank you

Neat birds. We listened to three of them last night as they called to each other across a small lake. Unfortunately, the screech owls and a barred owl was all we heard - the dogs didn't open once in two hours. At least it was a nice night for a walk in the woods.

Yep, Eastern Screech Owl. They do look very similar to the Great Horned with both of them having the ear tufts. But with that size, has to be Screech.

CUTE!

What a Neat find! We hear owls ALL the time here... but never get to see them.A few nights ago I was out doing some chores in the dark listening to 2 owls talking... Bob and our dead quiet BnT snuck up on me... and Bob got to see one of the big owls slip off silently into the night air... Of course I missed it... and LUCKILY Bob flashed his light at me so I didn't have a heart attack and KILL him for scaring me... LOL.. I scare easy and was really enjoying the night sounds so... if he had ruined it by scaring me... he would NOT be a happy man...

Keep looking for cool stuff out there! Some day I really hope Bob and I get to go out in the woods at night again!
