Truck Question

Anyone hunting out of a newer (2010-2012) tacoma? Thinking about getting a new truck and wondering what the inside width of the bed is.

My powerstroke and fuel prices are killing me. Think Im going to go with a Tacoma. They look bigger than they used to I am just trying to find out if a full size dog box will fit in the bed.

Youre welcome. I try to support my club and others as much as I can.

If your looking for room and mileage why not try one of the new F150's with the eco boost engines? Tacomas wont get any better mileage than they will.

I looked at the eco boost. They are nice but from what Ive seen the price is a little steep for me. But price aside that was one of my picks to look into. Very sharp truck. Thanks for your input.

Unique makes a 42 inch wide box for trucks the size of the Tacomas and Dodge Dakotas. I have one in my truck right now.

Standard big truck box is 48 and small truck box is either 36 or 38.

What type of fuel mileage does your powerstroke get? I had one that got 18 every fill up. I now drive a 09 f150 supercrew and get 18 also. My brother and dad had 2010 Tacomas bought almost the same day and had the same options. One truck got 17-18 and the other truck got 18-19. The best either one got was 21. Both Tacomas were crew cab 4x4 v6

My 250 gets about 18 highway when it's not broke. It's a big money pit. Think I'll stick with my decision. Thanks Virgil for answering my question.

look around and find an older toyota. One anywhere from 1979-1995 with the 2.4 liter 22re four cylinder engine. If you look good and hard you can find some of these that have been beautifully restored and look and drive just like a brand new truck. The only difference is that they get way better gas mileage and last forever. I am working on restoring a 92 4runner right now. I get 25 miles per gallon out of it and can haul my whole familiy around. There is a company out of oregon called Oregon Engine Builders they can be found at www.oregonengines.net that sells rebuilt 22re engines with a lifetime unlimited mileage warranty for $1095. for an extra five hundred bucks they will build you a super stock engine that has another twenty or so horse power and the same warranty. You can buy brand new transmission for about $900. basically if a guy bought a good body and spent between $5-10,000 on restoring it you would have a truck that looks and runs just like a brand new truck and will have an unlimited mileage warranty. It will also get way better gas mileage. These trucks are so stupid simple to work on and the sky is the limit when it comes to aftermarket and performance parts thanks to the rock crawler community. Check out some of these web sites for ideas on what some of these companies can build. I know some of them are a little radical for a daily driver but you can see what they are capable of as far as suspension, driveability, and performance, etc. www.addictedoffroad.com. www.marlincrawler.com www.yotatech.com These days I just dont see the point in paying $25,000 for a brand new truck that will get worse mpg and if somethig goes wrong it will cost thousands to repair, and you need a degree in computer science just to work on. This is why I decided to restore mine since If anything goes wrong with it I can repair it myself and the parts are super cheap and easy to find.

I'm not so sure I want to support a union worker anymore. Look at the super bowl, Eli got a brand new corvette given to him. Yet 08-09 GM was in such shape we had a bail out with them and Chrysler. I don't know about you but that makes me a little mad.

what!

You better check some facts toyoto,Honda, employ as many Americans as the rest as for junk I have a 2002 dodge 4x4 crew cab I spent $36,000 on and I can't afford to drive it gets 11 MPG and breaks down every 2,000 miles it only has 82,00 miles on it.I have a 90 toyoto truck I bought for $3000 8 years ago with 135,000 miles on it now it has 314,000 miles on it and I drive it every day same motor same tranny.I have hit 10 deer and put it in 3 ditches buried in mud to the doors 2 times, stolen and wrecked once I can't see junk I see money well spent.I know someone that works for Honda and he says they treat there employees very good.

Toyota just moved 1800+ jobs to America from Japan. Seems there doing more to help our economy than the big 3.

just go look in any high school parking lot and count the number of 1980-1999 american made vehicles then take a quick (or not so quick you'll be counting for a while) count of the japanese made vehicles. If that doesnt tell you somethong about the longevity and depedability of Jap made vehicles I dont know what will. Bottom line is the jap engineers where decades ahead of the Americans and trully understood how to make efficient and long lasting vehicles in era when the quality of American made vehicles was just plain pathetic. I am all for buying and even paying more for American made products when they are comprable in quality to the competitions, but to pay just as much for something that is going to cost twice as much to operate and three times as much to maintain is crazy. Especially when the big three are ruled by union laborers getting paid twice to three times the going wage in the area. If the big three have to pay wages and insurance costs like that you can bet that they will have to cut costs somewhere else. I just dont want them cutting costs in the quality of a vehicle that I will invest a huge portion of my yearly wages in.

22 miles per gallon out of 1995 dodge thats real impressive. I noticed you didnt say how many zillion miles it has on it. Take a toyota similarly equiped and you will get much better mileage than that. Like I said I get 25 mpg out of my 92 4runner. That is not a two wheel drive single cab little truck. I can comfortably haul my whole family and a hound or two across the country and get better mileage than that.
I would love for you to enlighten us all with a dodge or for thatmatter a ford or chevy of the same era that can come even close to competing with that.

Junkyota that is funny. My Dad once bought a brand new 1992 dodge caravan by 60,000 miles he was on transmission number 3. That is by my definition Junk and I would have no problem saying that to the poor little factory worker who made a ridiculous wage that was payed for by the sweat of my fathers brow. My father will gladly tell you that, that dodge was the single worst and most regretted purchase of his life.

When I came up...

my dad did all the work on our vehicles. He went through about every make out there before he decided on Toyota. Now it is all he will buy. He told me, when I asked him why we don't buy American, he will buy the best made product period..no matter where it is made. People simply buying American, regardless of quality, allow the big 3 to produce inferior vehicles. By buying Japanese, or whatever (it seems to me that Korea is making some fine vehicles now) it would force the big 3 to have to make higher quality vehicles. I believe that...and to this day that is what I do. I drive a 98 Toyota T100. 6 cylinder...265,000 miles....24 mpg. Never ever had any issue with that truck and I abuse the hell out of it.

And for what its worth...I think ecoboost is nothing more than a marketing ploy. Put Eco in the title and it has to be good...nothing more than greenwashing.

Yea but that F150 wont last as long as that tacoma will. Plus a full size truck is a fat arse and doesnt fit down trails well. Lets not even get into quality....

I wish Toyota/Honda/Nissans still came over on a boat, Much better Workmanship back then. Sorry. I also wish that Unions didnt ruin the American Auto Industry forcing it to go across the border.

yup and dont forget the other world war and all the countries involved there. and how about the revolutionary war you know we probably shouldnt deal with them Britts any more. Oh and I got another idea lets not do any business across the Mason Dixen line while we are at it. Bottom line almost all of the parts I buy are built and sold by small American companies the kind that actually put an honest man to work. Not ridiculously overpaid union workers.

Is your T100 a 4x4? As far as the ecoboost I think it is stupid in trucks. I get 17-18 every fill up with my 5.4 v8. I went and loiled at them and talked to people who have them and they only get 19 sometimes.

I would like to see the ecoboost is a regular cab shortbed 4x4. I think is it good in the cars and SUVs but the trucks are just too heavy for the motor to really help with mpgs.

Toyota is less of a JAP TRUCK than GM and DODGE. They are built HERE, many parts are produced HERE. After all aren't we supposed to be supporting workers instead of companies? I don't care if my check goes to China if they send it back here to the workers. Personally it gags me that 2/3 of the "AMERICAN" auto companies are government owned! Toyota didn't get a bailout though did they????
