G2 vs Garmin

I have generally gotten 800 to 1000 yds on the Garmin while tracking. I heard a story or two about the LED heads causing interference with the Garmins. Last nite I had my Garmin lose signal at approx. 345 yds. I shut my light off and went to the Garmin backlight. After a couple of seconds the signal came back at approx 445. Must be a little something with the LED and the Garmin.

I have only had to use the long range antenae one time. Dogs got out of the pocket on a nite hunt. They were 1.4 mi. away. Around here if you have a dog go more than that.....ya might want to try a different dog.... I left my Garmin at the house one nite and used my Maxima that I keep in the truck. I was in half a panic all nite. Wouldn't go back to regular telemetry on a bet. I have no doubt about where a dog is now....no "guestimation." Probably use my rechargeble batteries a little quicker using the backlite instead of my belt lite.

I believe the original question was asking about interference by the G2 head.

Yes, there is radio interference by the G2 that drastically reduces the range of the Garmin. The higher you have the G2 turned up, the more interference. If you are tracking your hound at a fairly far range and turn your G2 on high, you will usually lose coverage in about 20 to 30 seconds. If you turn your G2 off, you will usually pick up coverage in just a couple seconds.

The obvious answer is to use the back light on the Garmin. If you're using your G2 and getting reduced range, try turning it off and see if you don't get a reading right away.

No real question in my statement. I pretty well knew what happened when I had the signal loss at that range. I thought by keeping the G2 on the lowest setting it might not interfere with it. It did. Shut off the light and reset the Garmin and it picked right back up. I was just throwing this out there incase someone experienced the same issue and hadn't read the earlier thread.

in the hills here in pa i was on a cast last night that the dogs got out of pocket, we took our minus and called timeout. i turned on my garmin and got signal of my dog treed at .88 miles in about 45 seconds of being on.

i don't know what you guys are doing with your units that are losing dogs between 700-1000 yards, but you may want to read the instructions that came with the unit when you bought it on UPDATING THE SYSTEM!

Kinda funny but when I get garmins I want a half dozen to go on the coons I'm chasin. But talk about reading instructions, I'm just learning how to post pictures and it makes a heck of a difference in the instructions if you read it but didn't catch it about the LEFT click instaed of the right click . LOL

I have updated both unit and collar....twice.

bsbt - If you push your on/off switch after you turn it on a light indicator will come on. Use your up/down arrow as to how much brightness you want. I would recommend using as low a setting on your light as you can to save batteries. The light will use them up a little.
