How much time required to do this?

Its been awhile since ive done coon hunting and im looking to get back into it. How many days a week does the average dog require to become a good trained coon dog? How many hours a time? What are the basic steps to get one going? I really want to get into this again with my dad and brothers. I think i can put in 3 to 4 nights a week an hour or two at a time with a dog and am wondering if that will be enough. Just looking for some opinions and past experience from people. I just want to hunt, not go to shows or anything.

All dogs are different. My advice would be to hunt them as much as possible.

truth be told, an hour or two a night 3 to 4 nights a week is probably more than most hounds get hunted.

Time

You gotta do it cuz you love it. Not cuz you want to put the hours in or you want a good dog..................You just totally love it.

with that much hunting time you should be able to get a good pup going good,.
whatever breed you choose you should research the bloodlines for one linebred on a coondog family and your hunting/training time will be more pleasure than work...
you need to decide if you want a dog that checks in or you wont see it till you get it off the tree somewhere.
even if you get a pup out of a family that checks in ,it dont mean yours might be that way,,best to get a pup between 8-12 months old and hunt with it if you can before you buy to see if it may be the type of dog you are wanting..

good luck with whatever you get..
