I recieved a ph call this morning from Dick Dale's wife, she told me that Dick had passed away last night. Dick called me late last week and told the the Dr's had told him there was nothing they could do to help him in his fight against cancer. He told me if something happened to him he would have his wife call and let me know. I missed the call this morning but when I saw his name on the missed call list I knew it wasn't going to be a good call.

I've known Dick for about 4 years and only just met him last year at Oaks. In those short 4 years I've come to think alot of him I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better person. One of his grandson's plays college baseball and the coach had called Dick and asked him to come throw out the first pitch for their last game this Saturday. When I had talked to him he told me he didn't know if he was going to be able to make it to the game or not but that he sure wanted to. His wife told me today that they had gotten him to the game and he was able to throw the first pitch and that he wouldn't agree to go hom untill the game was over. He sure was PROUD of his family and I'm glad he was able to see his grandson play one last game.

Cancer is Bitter Sweet, it takes them away from us.
But we Know they are going to go.
It gives a chance to mend feelings, say good bye, spend time with loved ones.

it is bitter sweet. without the knowledge that doctors have now, they would just pass away. like in the past, I'm thankful for the time I had with my grandpa, I'm thankful I had a chance to say goodbye.

2 1/2 years ago still miss him but his influence lives on, and is passed on.

Good friends are so hard to find. I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers up to you and his family. Cancer is a hard thing to deal with.....at least he's found his peace with God.

Sorry for your loss. I worked for a funeral home for 10 years and that taught me to make every day count with those you love. You just never know. It sounds like the 4 years you knew each other were impactful and meaningful to you both. Have comfort in your memories.

I'm sure saddened to hear of Dick's passing Dennis. I really enjoyed visiting with him at Autumn Oaks last year. My condolences to his family.
