My only gripe with the LED heads.......

The only thing I don't like about these LED heads is that you can't adjust the flood of the beam. In the winter with the leaves off it was no big deal. The tight spot is ok because you are looking for fur, not eyes. Now, with the leaves all on the spot is too tight for scanning the tree looking for those eyes. I like to widen the beam and use a dim light to find the coon but with these LED's, you can't cover the tree with a wide beam. I think if they ever get the flood adjustable they will be perfect.

Jim, that's what I was concerned about & why I held off until the leaves came out. I like a lot of light & wide beam during the summer because I'm subject to stumbling over everything. I've had the led pro-head for over a year now & even though it doesn't have a tight spot on it I'm pleased enough with it that I guess I'll just stick with it.

Wondering if a pop cover with a domed lense would do the trick?

LED Lights

If I can't find the coon, it's VERY RARELY a light problem. It's ALMOST ALWAYS a dog problem!

I never blame the light for me not seeing a coon. I blame the dog. The light is seldom the problem!

The more accurate the dog is, the more effective your light will be (LED or not).

You guys crack me up. You never miss any opportunity to say "if you had enough dog.....blah, blah, blah.
Don't worry about my dogs getting plussed for those coons, if they are there, they will get plussed. My comment was that I think these LED's would be greatly improved if you could adjust the flood like you can with a 5100 bulb head. Then they would be about perfect.

Maybe my dog just misses when I use my LED, but I will use my LED for a couple nights and not find any coons, break my old light out and find most of them. I love it but if my luck dont change with it, its going in the river.

I have heard this before Jim and I don't understand it. The Led I use has a lot of ambient light with a spot in the middle like most of them. That ambient light will shine eyes in a much larger radius than my 5100 head will. Try shining at your dogs eye and slowly move the spot away and watch how far to the side you can pick up eye shine. I don't see a need to be able to make it flood it is already flooded.

I use a tech 1 head that has a very tight spot. My crossbred dogs are treeing with 95% accuracy and no problems finding the coon yet, and my light isn't as bright as the high side of a 21 volt. If you're not finding the coon it's probably not the lights fault.

I have the Bright Eyes White Lightening. It is the best of both worlds. It is wide and bright. On high you can ligh up a whole tree or field. On low you still cover most of the tree with a dim light. I don't know what burn time is but I have never ran out on long nights useing it on high a lot...............The only down side I see about it is the weight is a little more..............Oh they will look at it on bright too. I have had several do it. I don't try to get them to though becouse I can usualy find the fur faster if I can get around the tree.......If not I turn it down and squal.........

seeing the coon

You know, both the dog AND the handler (actually majority of the handlers) have to find the coon.....So you need enough dog, enough light, and enough eyesight (although there are some who call 'em blind if you know what I mean).

Well for me, the answer would not be tight or wide spot, the answer is ADJUSTABLE spot. But until they figure out how to make'em, I'm purty happy with my G2.
