Tree Jacking Dogs?

What do you all think about them?
I hate them and i'm not talking about the dog that might hump the tree. I'm talking about that sob that thinks he needs to climb up the tree 5 to 10 feet and fall on the other dogs at the tree. Then it always starts something at the tree. Now I know this tree jacker is a pain but the guy who lets him get away with it worse then him.

Yea, I'm not crazy about a dog who is bad for it either.

HEYMAN !!!

I hate them to , bumping is not falling, dogs bump each other all the time but jumping and falling is a fauilt that shoud be corrected as soon as you can a lot of times it comes from working on caged coon remember all dogs work off of repatition I see guys traing there dogs on coon and when it stops barking at the coon they lower the cage and the dog jumps not a good thing ! Remember dogs react , and so do people if I keep jumping on you you wil react to it so will a dog !!!!!! Dont blame him just the dog that is jumping and failling !!!

There are 3 groups of people that enter hunts.

1. Worrys about the other rough, ill, tree jacking, ect ect.

2. Worrys about their dog getting into trouble at the tree because they know they have a problem.

3. Is the smallest group, they arent worried about the other dogs because they have prepared a dog that will tree stay out of trouble either way.

Somewhere, sometime, you are gonna have 3 or four dogs fall treed on a small tree or sapling with a coon 12 feet off the ground. It may be a comp hunt or it may be a pleasure hunt but if you got a dog that is too touchy to take the banging around that comes with the sport, then you are in for a lotta grief. Comp or pleasure, it makes no difference.

Tree jacking is a reality if you bear hunt. I used to test my dogs with the worst tree jackers we had to make sure they wouldnt fight. Never had to cull but one in twenty five years of breeding. Unfortunately also in bear hunting people will bring any kind of trash they can get a collar on. I will not turn my dogs out with those kind of people unless they test thier dogs also. I just say we can hunt mine or we can hunt yours but we aint going to hunt "ours".
A dog that cant take getting bumped in the fray is a tree fighter in my book and most I ever saw were black, white, and tan.

I believe some tree jacking may be caused by training mistakes but I believe the majority of this problem comes from the breeding pen. I hate to draw a dog like this as well as it will cause a fight at the tree (unintentional) quicker than a touchy dog that stakes his claim to one spot on the tree and dares any dog to cross that line.

As a breeder we should make a conscious effort to reduce this traight, by looking for breeding stock that can tree just as many coons as the tree jacker, but have the stand in one place, look straight up the tree, and tree every breath style, This would go along way toward reducing the number of fights we see at the tree.

To the guy that thinks tree jacking is from a caged coon and can be trained out of them. Really? I don't have time to argue a point like that with u.. U think u can change there tree style set it up too see how they tree when your not in at the tree.. All I know is if your dog jacks the tree and my dog fights cuz of it I'm not mad at ur dog..

HEYMAN !!!

This is the guy that does not think it is all from a caged coon read my post I said alot of times that is what it is from but some dogs still do it .. And you can look at my thread any time on the ENGLISH BOARD UNDER TIMBERJACK AND SWANCREEK I have videos of my dogs on there if dogs start to jack a tree my dog backs off the tree you can think what you want it is a fault and should be dealt with ....... SOME DOGS TREE SITTING DOWN SOME ON THE TREE AND SOME BACK UP AND SIT DOWN AT THE TREE SAW SOME BEAR DOGS UP NORTH HERE DO THAT , BUT A DOG THAT JACKS A TREE IS BAD NEWS SOONER OR LATER ....And ROCKETMAN 55 YOU ARE RIGHT We as breeders need to not breed these traits in the dogs ....

I cant explain it, but iv seen an 11 year old GrNt who never jacked a tree in her life (was always a sit down tree dog) go from sit down treeing on the first drop, then on the second she was jacking the tree when we got there and shes jacked tree ever since.

She was getting hot. #1 cause of tree-jacking and gnawing. Right behind their breeding

This makes since. She hasn't been hunted much so shes a little overweight so she probably was getting hot.

i would rather have a dog not do it but what bothers me a lot more than tree jacking is the dog that can't take any bumping, landing on or jockeying with out being the first one to show teeth and growl. or what is even worse is the dog that backs his behind up to the tree and gaurds it growling and snapping other dogs off the tree. or even worse is the guy that drags that dog to a hunt. i"ll take all those tree jackers if there a top hound any day. there are so many faults a hound can have to be worried about a dog showing you the tree with the most intensity possible.good smart tolerant hound should be able to work around this without fighting. thats my opinion if your kid tripped and fell on your house dog it should just get away after it happens not sit their and maul your kid to death . same way i feel about hounds.

Myself, not wanting a dog that runs the tree or gnaws is a personally preference. I hate a dog that i have to stop every few mins and wait on him to go back to treeing. I dont want to own one, hunt with one, or breed to one. The dog aint gotta belly-up and blow the top outta the tree like Homer's Gomer. I dont care if they stand up, sit down, or a little of both. I dont care if they bawl or chop at the tree so long as i can tell when he's about to get wooded. Ive seen too many good coon-treeing dogs fall out of trees and break their neck. What did they all have in common??? Jacking the tree. Your idea of a top dog maybe a dog that trees regardless of how high they run the tree or how long u have to wait on him to start back barking, and thats fine. But that's not a top dog to me. Alot of dogs tree coons. Top dogs do it with a little style about them.
